Job Description
The Production Manager's Role and Responsibilities include:
Develop and implement production plans and schedules in alignment with company goals and customer demand.
Oversee the entire production process and ensure efficient utilisation of resources.
Collaborate with other departments to optimise workflows and improve overall plant efficiency.
Manage and lead a team of production foremen, shift leaders, and team leaders.
Manage budgets and monitor production costs, identifying and implementing cost-saving measures.
Recruit, train, and develop production personnel, including foremen, shift leaders, team leaders, and operators.
Implement and maintain quality control procedures throughout the production process.
Analyse production data, identify areas for improvement, and continuously implement process optimisations.
Manage and resolve production issues and disruptions, minimising downtime and ensuring timely delivery.
Manage and prioritise maintenance requests for equipment and machinery.
Ensure strict adherence to safety regulations and procedures across all manufacturing departments.
Collaborate with the Operations Director to align production goals with overall business objectives.
Report production performance metrics and key issues to the Operations Director and Senior Management as required.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field preferred.
Minimum 5 years of experience in a steel manufacturing company in a leadership role.
Strong understanding of production processes, quality control methodologies, and lean manufacturing principles.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proven ability to lead and motivate diverse teams, achieve production goals, and manage budgets effectively.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
The Successful Applicant
The ideal candidate must be based or be willing to relocate to Cape Town for the Production Manager role. Further requirements of the candidate that are needed for the role include:
Must be able to set up systems from a technical point of view.
Understand the steel manufacturing industry very well.
Must be able to handle staff on the ground floor.
Be able to manage a team.
Must have an engineering background and qualification.
Must understand lean manufacturing.
