Production Manager Job DescriptionLocation: Cape Town - Cape Flats (Maccassar - Landsdowne)Responsibilities:Managing factory employees (approx. 30 people) including:Production planning in each department and ensuring adequate scheduling of staff.Monitoring and managing time and motion of factory employees.Ensuring every job is completed on time and in full with all quality standards met.Ensuring production equipment is working properly and maintained.Ensuring standard operating procedures are adhered to at all times and/or developing new standard operating procedures.Ensuring all staff are trained and organizing training when needed.Ensuring all Health and Safety regulations are met and in line with South African legislation.Regularly presenting feedback to management on all issues related to the production manager's role.Ensuring responsible waste control.Establishing a balance between increased productivity and reduced costs of manufacturing operations.Setting productivity goals for each manufacturing team.Developing workflow policies and procedures that improve efficiency without compromising safety or quality.Managing the various teams in the factory – i.e., CNC, Perspex, Metal, etc.Liaising with project managers and rigging manager regarding production and installations.Managing the company's production and fabrication processes including review of issued specifications, bill of quantities, drawings, time schedules, and works instructions.Monitoring project timelines daily and ensuring quality standards are met.Quality & Costs Management – ensuring all products meet targeted quality and minimizing waste and reworks.On Time Delivery Targets – ensuring targets are met consistently.Health & Safety Parameters – ensuring all safety requirements are met.Equipment Condition – maintaining an asset register and maintenance schedule for all tools and machinery.Waste & Housekeeping – ensuring the factory and premises are neat and tidy at all times.Daily communication and planning review with shop floor to manage staff performance.Requesting and obtaining freight quotations for shipping and organizing collection for installation.Checking and optimizing freight costs.Skills:Strong commitment to service delivery including meeting project deadlines, quality standards, and cost estimates.Ability to take and follow through on corrective action required by staff.A zero tolerance for non-performance by staff.Ability to communicate and motivate staff effectively.Strong focus on adherence to technical and production work instructions.Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience:Qualification in Production and Process Management at NQF Level.10 years in an operational managerial role, preferably in a job shop operation.Experience in handling schedules, materials, and manpower.Knowledge of effective task allocation and scheduling to meet quality standards and delivery targets.A working knowledge of applicable labour legislation.Experience in the use of information technology for administration and feedback.Knowledge of Health & Safety requirements in a factory environment.Profile:Strong result-driven Production Manager with a technical hands-on background overseeing the overall aspects of the value chain.
