Overview
Manage all aspects of the development and marketing of speciality products within Omnia SADC that falls under the scope of Omnia Nutriology. This position will report to the Marketing Director of the Agriculture Division.
Qualifications
A M.Sc. or Ph.D. in chemistry preferably with post graduate qualification in plant physiology, agronomy or related scientific field.
Registered as Professional Natural Scientist at the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP).
BASOS/FACTS qualification from the Fertilizer Association of South Africa (FERTASA) is beneficial.
AVCASA/Crop Life SA certification would be beneficial to this position.
Experience
Minimum of 5 years' experience in speciality agronomic product development and formulation is required.
Experience in supervising staff.
Experience in managing and conducting field and greenhouse trials.
Experience in the South African product registration process and requirements for the Fertilizers, Farm feeds, Agricultural Remedies and Stock Remedies Act 36 of 1947.
Experience in successfully launching and marketing speciality agronomic products including biological stimulants.
Duties
Formulate and develop new speciality nutrient/biostimulants and biological product solutions for the Omnia SADC region.
Improve existing products to provide sustainable world class product solutions.
Stay abreast with new technology development to ensure cutting edge product solutions are delivered into the market, by using expert knowledge of chemical and biological formulations and physiological impact these products have on crops.
Coordinate initial trial work to prove efficacy and proof of concept.
Coordinate registration trials and documentation to register new products successfully.
Manage the greenhouse facility in Sasolburg and greenhouse staff.
Play an active role in marketing of speciality products within SADC.
Responsible for continual market research of competitor and possible third-party products.
Provide necessary training for successful launch and sales of speciality product solutions.
Represent Omnia at local and international conferences and governing bodies by demonstrating high level technical and regulatory knowledge.
Job Competencies
Knowledge of plant physiology and chemistry principles.
Highly skilled in conceptualizing and formulating new products.
Highly skilled in a wide range of cropping systems such as field, orchard and hydroponics.
Detailed understanding of both broad acre and orchard crop cultivation.
In depth knowledge of nutrient and agri-bio related products.
Practical experience in conducting field- and greenhouse trials on a variety of crops.
Detailed knowledge on the regulatory aspects of product development, manufacturing and registration.
Ability to lead and take initiative.
Excellent communication skills are required.
