Duties & ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities:Develop and execute the Product Development strategy for new and existing product rangesOptimise product cost and improve the product quality both internally and in conjunction with external suppliersMonitor team projects / activities to achieve strategic objectivesPerform evaluations of new materials and suppliersManagement of the Engineering Change ProcessLead projects with multidisciplinary teamsConduct FMEA studies and address issues raisedDevelop test methods and perform product testing for approvalPerform and approve initial sample inspection reports (ISIR)Manage all information, documentation, drawings related to the department in accordance with company policies and ISO 9001 requirementsManage the thermodynamic test laboratoryInterpret thermodynamics test results and provide solutions for improvementProvide support to production with product / process / quality / equipment related issuesKeep abreast of regulatory specifications and ensure product compliancePerform and support the Letter of Authority application processFamiliarity with the following standards is an advantage: ISO 9001, ISO 17025, SANS / IEC 62552, 60335-1 & 60335-2-24Develop, maintain and improve departmental work standards / proceduresAny other product development and design functions as may be necessaryApproval of purchasesAdhere to financial policies and proceduresSafety Health and Environment:Ensure staff works safely according to safety policies, standards and lawsIdentify potential hazards and critical safety issues in the workplaceAlways ensure a clean and organised work environmentPeople Management:Lead the Product Development Team to achieve organisational objectivesDetermine resource requirements for the functionCompile and update individual development plans and facilitate individual careersConduct performance reviews and manage sub-standard performanceEnsure that all employee resources within the Department are optimally utilisedChair disciplinary inquiriesMaintain and encompass the company corporate valuesDesired Experience & QualificationEducational Requirements:BSc / BTech / BEng Mechanical EngineeringCAD, Solid Works is an advantageHigh level of computer literacyElectrical engineering knowledge is an advantageExperience:5+ years manufacturing environment experience2+ years at management level or 4+ years leading multidisciplinary teams projectsExperience in People Leadership – must have led small teamsExperience in Project ManagementDesign for manufacturing principlesLean manufacturing principlesCost based approachApply known problem solving techniquesAbility to work in a unionised environmentGood interpersonal, communication and presentation skills (both written and verbal)Refrigeration background or an understanding of thermodynamics is an advantageAligning performance for successBuilding and maintaining relationshipsInterpersonal skills & communicationTeam playerChange leadershipCommercial acumenDiversity with inclusionDrive for resultsStrategic planning, organising & controlDecision makingQuality leadershipQuality orientationRespectSafety awarenessSafety leadershipWork standardsIntegrity
