Job Description WSP South Africa is looking for an experienced and passionate Senior Thermal Power Plant Engineer who will function as a senior technical consultant for gas turbine and gas engine projects in Southern Africa and also support the international business as required. Must be registered with ECSA as a Professional Engineer. Up to 10% travel to clients, sites and manufacturers' premises is envisaged. The role will require foreign travel, specifically travel within Africa.
Key Responsibilities: Managing and performing high quality technical advisory works Project Management and interfacing between engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, civil and control and instrumentation). Prepare functional designs, specifications and tender documents for thermal power plant projects to internationally accepted standards for clients in Southern Africa and also internationally. Review detailed designs from OEM's or EPC's submitted by contractors. Site audits and inputs to Project Scoping. Assessment of the technical performance of thermal power plants. Provide project engineering support during the execution phase of thermal generation projects including responding to technical queries, factory inspections and testing of materials, and monitoring progress of construction on site. Preparation of proposals for consultancy services. Qualifications and Experience Required: BSc Engineering (Electrical or Mechanical) Degree 8+ years' experience on gas turbines and gas engines in simple and combined cycle. An in-depth knowledge and field expertise regarding power plant modelling, design, construction supervision and commissioning. Technical advisory experience towards investors, project developers and banks. An in-depth knowledge and field expertise regarding gas infrastructure in Southern Africa. Proven experience in business development. Knowledge of various OEM gas turbines and gas engines models. International thermal power plant project development and delivery experience. Past experience covering a range of thermal power plant lifecycle delivery (including feasibility and development engineering, construction monitoring, witnessing testing and commissioning activities, and operational monitoring/inspections). Knowledge of thermal plant modelling software – including Thermoflow. ECSA registration as a Professional Engineer. Key Competencies and Generic Skills: Minimum 8 years' experience in thermal power plants. Ability to work within a team of engineers. Good communication skills. Good technical report writing skills. Ability to manage time, quality and effort in order to deliver a quality product within time and cost constraints. Ability to coordinate and manage projects. Ability to work under pressure. Must be able to function independently.
