Assist the Emergency Services Team Manager in compiling fire risk profiles. Fight fires as required, respond to HAZMAT incidents and medical emergencies. Maintain life during emergencies. Attend plant safety meetings and monthly departmental meeting and safety meetings. Assist in investigations of fire and emergency incidents. Perform fire prevention inspections and maintenance. Participate in self audits and reports. Present Training. Perform all ad hoc duties as requested by the Team Manager. Inspect and maintain vehicles and equipment. Perform standby duties as and when required by plant.Shift worker which may change as operational needs may arise.
Requirements Primary qualification Grade 9 / 10 Matric / Grade 12 Basic Ambulance Assistant (Internal) Fire 1 / Hazmat awareness
Grade 9 only AEA (External) Fire Man Certificate or Fire Fighter 1 & 2 Rope Technician 1
Work experience 3 Years grade 9 and 2 Years Grade 10 Firefighting. Hazmat incidents / Awareness. Medical response and assistance / BAA. Rope rescue. Fire systems and portable fire equipment. Commissioning of fire systems on request. Conduct training: Fire and Hazmat on request.
Knowledge / Special training Proven competency on Fire systems and portable fire equipment. Proven competency in Commissioning of fire systems. Basic Ambulance assistant / Intermediate Life Support.
Licenses required A Code C1 (10) driver's license with PDP
Personal attributes Must be able to analyze situations and reach the correct course of action. Ensure proper and accurate communication. Work is mostly physical of nature, e.g. preparing an intravenous line. Must maintain a high level of fitness Must be declared fit to work by Columbus Occupational Medical Practitioner (OMP). Must be adaptable as shifts might change or might be called out while off duty.
