Power System Protection Engineering Consultant

Our client is an independent specialist energy consultancy providing technical, strategic, environmental and consenting advice to organizations operating within the conventional and renewable energy sectors.Location: Cape Town, HybridRequirements:Protection coordination and arc flash studiesOther power system studies such as grid code compliance or grid impact studiesTraining and mentoring of employeesProject management (financial and resource management)Maintaining relationships with existing clients and identifying and engaging new clientsDuties and responsibilities:A Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Mechatronic Engineering (or equivalent)Registration or working towards registration with ECSA as a Professional EngineerWell-rounded individual with the ability to deliver work individually, or as part of a teamExcellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to engage with Clients, forming long-term and mutually beneficial relationshipsGood problem-solving and negotiation skillsStrong teamwork skills with a positive and flexible approach and the ability to build relationshipsAcute attention to detailThe ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects requiring frequent communication, good organization and careful time managementExperience collaborating with external stakeholders to drive projectsFamiliar with, and ability to interpret, typical substation primary and secondary/control plant design drawingsExperience of network modelling and analysis in DIgSILENT, PowerFactory (PSS/E, ETAP or other software packages will also be considered)Experience performing all modelling, simulations and calculations required to specify all protection settings (LV to HV) required in a typical renewable power plant (experience performing the same for synchronous generator plants, industrial/mining operations or complex transmission/distribution grids is considered an advantage)Experience with arc flash studiesKnowledge of the South African transmission and distribution systems and South African Grid Code and current industry developmentsKnowledge of relevant RSA legal requirements and applicable Eskom, SANS, IEC, IEEE and Cigre standards and guidelines
