Power Solutions Engineer - Commercial

In this role, you will be responsible for supporting our Commercial team across the country. This will entail providing effective and efficient communication on opportunities with customers, energy modelling, solution designs, feasibility studies, and project support.
We are seeking a highly skilled Power Solutions Engineer with a specialisation in Power Quality to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in identifying, analysing, and mitigating power quality issues in electrical systems. You will play a key role in designing, implementing, and maintaining power quality solutions for commercial, industrial, and utility-scale applications.
Role responsibilities:Power Quality Analysis:Conduct power quality assessments, including harmonic analysis, voltage sags/swells, flicker, transients, and other disturbances in electrical systems.Perform detailed investigations and root cause analysis of power quality issues.Utilise power quality monitoring tools and software to collect and analyse data.Solution Design and Implementation:Design and recommend corrective actions such as harmonic filters, reactive compensation, voltage regulators, surge protection, and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems.Collaborate with power quality team to integrate power quality solutions into new and existing systems.Develop and maintain technical documentation, such as power quality reports, system layouts, and technical specifications.Support the various branches and customers with metering, solution designs, cost optimisation on capital layout and operational costs analysis with feasibility reports.Support Functions:Provide technical support and troubleshooting for power quality issues in customer facilities.Work closely with field service engineers to deploy and monitor power quality solutions.Offer training and guidance to clients on best practices for maintaining optimal power quality.Client Engagement:Assist with project support to EPCs (engineering, procurement, and construction companies). BOM, design assistance, etc.Be familiar with the latest SANS and NERSA regulations and offer advice to customers.Liaise with clients to understand their specific power quality challenges and tailor solutions accordingly. Build and grow relationships with contractors and installers.Prepare detailed power quality assessment reports, proposals, and presentations for stakeholders.Work closely with internal team of sales representatives to develop projects with customers.Monitoring Solutions Growth Path Opportunity:Opportunity to learn and assist in building the monitoring services division through developing the methodology in the integration of hardware and data analytics solutions to our customers.Deep understanding of energy and optimisation analytics and communicating the findings and recommendations verbally and in a written report.Develop dynamic dashboards and performance tracking tools for customers.General Support:Assist with other engineering tasks and general functions as needed to support the overall success of the team and organisation.From time to time, provide support on non-core engineering tasks or assist other departments as needed to ensure smooth operations and the successful completion of broader company objectives.Knowledge, Skills & Ability Requirements:Required• B.Eng. degree in Electric/ Electronic /Mechatronic engineering
• Strong academic results
Preferred• Minimum 5 years' experience
• Business development experience for power quality related projects beneficial
• Experience with renewable energy, energy storage, electric vehicle charging, or energy efficiency is a requirement
Preferred Key skills and competencies:Sound knowledge of Power Quality engineering, project management, business developmentProven experience in technical sales, communication, project developmentHands-on experience implementing power quality projectsA good understanding of renewable energyProficiency in power quality metering and monitoring toolsStrong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose complex power quality issuesUp to date with current technology, trends, and best practice in energy engineeringDrawing packages (Solidworks, AutoCAD, ECAD or similar).JHB/CPT-based position; national travel is expected Key personal attributes:People person with strong ability to work in team environmentsStrong communication and negotiation skills, with an excellent command of English, both written and verbal.
