Job Advert Summary
The CCBR is looking for a suitably qualified person to take on the role of Pharmacy Assistant (Post Basic) who will work under the supervision of a Research Pharmacist to support clinic and community based research studies. The successful candidate will work in a clinical pharmacy according to South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC), South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAPHRA), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Good Clinical and Good Pharmacy Practice Guidelines (GCP and GPP). The Pharmacy Assistant will report to the Research Pharmacist and work closely with cross project units, project team and site support staff to successfully implement their role. This position is offered on a 12 month contract.
Minimum Requirements
Senior Certificate (Grade 12) and Pharmacist's assistant (post-basic) certificate of qualification from a provider of education and training approved by the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
Current registration with the South African Pharmacy Council as a Pharmacist Assistant Post Basic
Proof of registration with the SAPC as a Post Basic Pharmacy Assistant
A valid driver's license.
Knowledge, Skills, Training and Competence Required
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Organizational, planning, problem-solving and time management skills
Knowledge of pharmacy processes, policies and protocols
Advanced principles of stock management
Ability to work under pressure without compromising the quality of work
Good numeric skills, high level of accuracy
Ability to follow instructions with minimal supervision
Computer literacy including proficiency in Rx Solutions and Dispensing
Willingness to learn and undergo training.
Preference would be given to candidates with:
A minimum of 2 years experience as a registered post basic pharmacist assistant
Previous clinical trial experience
GCP and Human Subjects Protections certification
Experience in a hospital or local authority setting in dispensing ART
Aseptic preparation of pharmaceutical injectable agents
Duties and Responsibilities
Comply with the scope of practice of a Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant.
Prepare, compound, pack / prepack / repack, label all prescriptions
Stock management – ordering, receipt, issue / distribution, control, maintaining stock levels, record-keeping and storage (including daily temperature checks) of pharmaceuticals and non-pharmaceuticals, expiry checks, stock rotation, stock-take, security, stock management and maintaining stock levels in various sections in the Pharmacy.
Unpacking / receipt of stock received from suppliers
Pre-packing of pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical products
Manufacture / compounding of sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical products.
Collection and recording of statistics and information. Assist in the compilation of reports.
Administrative functions associated with the receipt, supply / distribution of pharmaceuticals.
Counselling clients on medicine use and health education, provision of basic primary health education.
Ensure compliance with Good Pharmacy Practice and norms and standards, Waste Management, Occupational Health and Safety compliance, Infection Prevention and Control.
Ensure Continued Professional Development and attendance of In-Service training, read, sign and comply / adhere to the policies and procedures / SOP's.
Perform all duties in accordance with regulations, professional standards and according to scheduled duties.
Willing to work overtime, including weekends.
Maintain good housekeeping (Hygiene and Cleanliness) in the Pharmacy environment.
Assist the pharmacist with required audits – prescription audits, counseling audits, medicine usage, IPC and antibiotic audits.
