PLC and Maintenance Specialist
The PLC and Maintenance Specialist is responsible for managing, programming, and maintaining the PLC and SCADA systems at the CRF, with a specific focus on Allen-Bradley systems. This role requires strong expertise in PLC programming, electrical work, and general maintenance support. The specialist will also provide supervisory oversight to maintenance staff during weekend shifts, ensuring smooth operations and quick resolution of any technical issues.
Requirements:
Electrical qualification is mandatory (NQF Level 5 or higher).
Additional Millwright certification is highly beneficial.
Proven experience in PLC programming, with a strong preference for Allen-Bradley systems.
Extensive experience in electrical maintenance within an industrial setting.
Experience with SCADA systems and their integration with PLCs.
Strong understanding of electrical systems, including motor control, wiring, and circuit design.
Proficiency in PLC programming languages (e.g., Ladder Logic, Structured Text).
Familiarity with industrial automation and control systems.
Provide training to maintenance staff on the safe and effective use of PLCs and electrical systems, enhancing the team's overall skill set.
Promote a strong safety culture within the maintenance team, ensuring that all electrical and programming work adheres to the highest safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
PLC and SCADA System Management:
Develop, program, and modify PLC logic to optimize plant operations, with a specific focus on Allen-Bradley systems.
Oversee the SCADA system, ensuring that it accurately monitors and controls plant processes.
Implement updates and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
Ensure seamless integration between PLC systems and other automated equipment within the facility, optimizing overall plant performance.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation for all PLC programs, SCADA configurations, and electrical schematics.
Electrical Maintenance:
Perform electrical maintenance tasks, including wiring, cabling, and installation of electrical components.
Ensure all electrical systems comply with safety regulations and standards.
Diagnose and resolve electrical issues within the plant, minimizing downtime and ensuring continuous operation.
Implement and maintain a preventative maintenance schedule for all electrical systems, including motors, drives, and other critical equipment.
Ensure that all electrical work adheres to industry standards and safety regulations, including South African electrical codes.
General Maintenance Support:
Work closely with the maintenance team to support mechanical and electrical repairs, particularly those involving motors, drives, and automated equipment.
Regularly inspect and monitor equipment performance, identifying potential issues before they escalate into significant problems.
Participate in the repair and overhaul of plant machinery, providing both electrical and PLC expertise to ensure comprehensive maintenance coverage.
Weekend Supervision:
Work every second weekend, providing supervisory oversight to maintenance staff.
Ensure that all weekend maintenance activities are completed efficiently and safely.
Direct and guide maintenance personnel during weekend shifts, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and operational procedures.
Act as the first point of contact for any technical emergencies that occur during weekend shifts, coordinating rapid response and resolution.
