Leading manufacturing group is seeking an experienced Plant Engineer to take accountability of equipment and services and to manage engineering projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES Create effective maintenance strategies to ensure that production stoppages are kept to an absolute minimum. Develop and implement policies, standards and procedures for the engineering and technical work performed in the department. Ensure quality of the production through preventative maintenance strategies. Employ correct maintenance strategies to extend the lifecycle of machines and equipment. Hire, train, and supervise engineering staff members. Monitor and determine various staffing and training needs. Overall engineering responsibility for the plant. Propose and oversee budgets, approving expenditure, and making decisions about the purchase of materials and/or services. Translate business objectives into functional capital projects and lead to completion. Propose and oversee timelines for engineering projects. Serve as the engineering leader and technical expert. Spearhead various research and development initiatives to identify opportunities for new projects and improved processes. Set engineering, maintenance and process targets. Assist with the development of capital project plans and the operational management thereof to ensure on-time completion within specification and Capex parameters. Be cognisant of current maintenance best practices and implement these in line with legislative parameters. Responsible for Mechanical and Electrical maintenance, Reliability, Engineering and Planning. Ensure compliance with governance and procedures. Ensure compliance with safety, health and environment standards. People management of external contractors and professional services. Monitor and manage energy usage (Electricity and Gas). REQUIREMENTS Degree in Engineering (preferably Electrical). Government Certificate of Competency (GCC). In-depth knowledge of engineering principles, standards and maintenance management systems. Technical proficiency across design, installation, commissioning, and plant operation. Basic Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) principles and/or Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM). Good working understanding of electrical and mechanical principles that support equipment operations. In-depth knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act No. 85 of 1993. OHSAS 18001 or ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Standard. ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems. Lean management concepts and tools. Understanding of South African Labour Laws. Personnel Management. ISO 9001 Quality Management Standard and related systems. Sound knowledge and understanding of contract management and the provision of services. Troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills. Project management. Risk management and Governance. Budgeting; forecasting; cashflow control and reporting.
