Transformational leadership is required from all at the University, and HR's role is to enable and facilitate processes for continuous improvement.This position reports to the Manager: Payroll. Is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll. This role involves overseeing payroll operations, maintaining employee payroll records, handling deductions, benefits, and taxes, and ensuring compliance with all relevant legal and University policies. The ideal candidate must be highly detail-oriented, possess strong organisational skills, and understand payroll systems and regulations well.Key Responsibilities:Payroll Processing:Process end-to-end payroll for employees on a regular schedule (monthly);Ensure accurate calculation of salaries, overtime, bonuses, and any approved ad-hoc payments;Account for deductions such as taxes, benefits, retirement plans, and garnishments;Manage employee benefits and Leave.Compliance and Reporting:Ensure payroll compliance with the relevant Acts, legislations, regulations and SARS;Prepare and file payroll-related reports, including tax filings and year-end documents;Stay updated on changes in SARS tax codes and labour laws that may affect payroll processes.Payroll Systems:Maintain and update payroll records, including new hires, terminations, salary changes, and employee benefits;Work with payroll software and systems to ensure data integrity and accuracy;Troubleshoot and resolve payroll discrepancies or issues related to payments, benefits, and deductions.Employee Support:Respond to employee inquiries related to payroll, including discrepancies, deductions, and benefits;Assist in reviewing payroll statements and ensuring all questions are addressed promptly.Reconciliations and Audits:Conduct payroll reconciliations to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies;Assist with internal and external audits related to payroll processes.Confidentiality and Data Protection:Handle sensitive employee payroll information with the utmost confidentiality;Adhere to data protection laws and company policies regarding the security of payroll data.To qualify, you will need:A relevant Degree in Accounting/Finance or related specialist discipline or equivalent at NQF level 7;At least 5 years' experience in payroll or accounting administration.Added advantage:Relevant working experience gained in a Higher Education Institution in South Africa;Accreditation by the South African Rewards Association / Certified Payroll Practitioner (SAPA) designation / SARA professional designation or an alternative accounting/payroll professional qualification;Demonstrable experience with relevant payroll systems such as ITS, SAP, or PeopleSoft.Job Summary:This role is essential for maintaining smooth payroll operations and ensuring compliance with financial and legal requirements.
