This position is one of the most important functionsin the health care delivery system and the first point of contact.
Thisposition will receive the patient and coordinate them into the services needed.Making appointments and making preliminary assessment category of payment forpatients are essential before provider can see them and proceed with billing inaccordance with services provided.Responsibilitiesand DutiesIt is theduty and responsibility of the Patient Care Coordinator to:•welcome patients as they contact the center personally or bytelephone, and explain the services available, payment categories, and billingprocedures; •schedule appointments and direct walk-in patients and emergenciesas per established policies and procedures;•train and use a Practice Management system once enabled;•answer all incoming calls and route them to the appropriate staff;•turns on/off after hours call service;•register all patients per registration protocols and collect alldocumentation;•generate route slips for each patient, and assure that allservices provided have been checked out properly; •review and verify patient coverage of insurance or other agenciesand computes the charges to be paid by the patients;•utilize sliding fee scale as directed;•bill third parties when applicable using current ICD and CPTcodes;•reconcile bills monthly;•prepare for accounting;•collect deposits or co-pays/deductible prior tothe patient being seen by the provider per established policies and procedures;•inform patient of their outstanding balance,collect said balance, and issue cash receipt when monies are collected; •work closely with medical and nursing staff toassure smooth patient flow and cut down on waiting time;•work closely with the health promotion personneland refer them to patients who did not keep their appointment for follow-up; •call and remind patient of his/her appointment; •follow-up on "no show" patients per protocol;•communicate patient's problem/complaint to theoffice manager or his/her designee; •data entry into grant required documentation asinstructed, routine utilization of EHR system;•run requisitions on internal bills for the clinicaccording to practice and procedure;•take inventory and monitor use of office suppliesand reordering as needed;•complete on-line/paper Medicaid applications forpatients;•participate on QA and QI initiatives within the setting asdirected; and •perform other duties as required.Qualifications and SkillsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSMinimum qualificationsinclude the following:•High School Diploma or equivalent.•Knowledge in CPT billing certification; HIPAA training.
•Oneyear of medical experience in a similar setting.
•One to two years of experience in patient access.•Ability to relate to patients; must believe in health care with dignity forall.
•Ability to communicate with people andunderstand their problems.
