Introduction To effectively oversee and manage project managers allocated to the substation and renewables department. Ensure all projects are completed within time, budget and quality. The Operations Manager is also responsible for guiding and managing all allocated project managers and to ensure that they maintain their KPI's
Key Performance Indicators : Lead and oversee the project and construction management of electrical substations, ensuring smooth functioning and adherence to construction standards.Develop and implement department, operational and construction strategies to optimize substation build performance and reliability.Provide leadership and guidance to substation project management teams, fostering a culture of safety, teamwork, and accountability.Safety and Compliance:Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards.Develop and implement safety procedures and protocols to mitigate risks and prevent accidents in substation operations. Key Responsibilities : Direct, oversee and manage the following activities via the various allocated project managers:Ensure Project managers understanding, management and administration of the various contracts.Ensure that progress, delays and any other events/situations, which might influence the program and costs are communicated timeously to ManagementEnsure Project managers develop a cost-effective plan and schedule for completion of project following a logical pattern for utilization of resourcesEnsure Project managers minimize exposure and risk by implementing and audits safety standards and quality assurance controlsOversee project managers, reviews their reports, checks on any reported difficulties, and corrects any safety violations or other reported deficienciesEnsure Project managers tracks and controls construction schedule and associated costs to achieve completion of projects within time and monies allocatedEnsure Project managers report to stakeholders and managers about progress and any necessary modifications of plans that seem indicated. Plans, implements, tracks and closeout construction projectsManages day to day operations of the substation departmentEnsure Project managers generate and issues timely internal and external project reporting on company templatesConduct site checks to monitor progress as well as safety and quality standards and implementation of the quality and safety plan (Visible Felt Leadership)Provide guidance and support to project managers on their projectsReview contractual communication and notices on all projectsEnsure a uniform project management system is maintained Competency Profile: LeadershipTeam PlayerPeople orientatedTechnically mindedHigh job demand in tight turnaround time requirementHighly developed managerial skills Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field. Master's degree preferred.Strong knowledge of electrical substations, power systems, and related equipment.Demonstrated leadership abilities with experience managing teams and driving operational excellence.Proficiency in safety regulations, standards, and best practices applicable to substation operations.Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively liaise with internal teams, clients, and regulatory authorities.Proven ability to troubleshoot and solve complex technical problems under pressure.Certification in project management (e.g., PMP) is a plus. Experience Minimum of 10 years of experience in substation operations management or related field, within the energy sector
