Introduction:
Raid Risk Management is a leading Security company and is currently seeking an experienced Occupational Health and Safety Officer with mining industry expertise to join our dynamic team. As an Occupational Health and Safety Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees across all mining operations. Your knowledge of mining-specific hazards, regulations, and best practices will play a critical role in maintaining a safe work environment.
Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive occupational health and safety programs tailored specifically for mining operations, ensuring compliance with relevant local, state, and federal regulations.
Conduct regular inspections and risk assessments of mining sites, machinery, equipment, and work areas to identify potential hazards and ensure adherence to safety standards.
Provide expert advice and guidance to mining personnel on occupational health and safety matters, including the interpretation and application of mining regulations and industry best practices.
Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, conducting thorough root cause analyses and recommending effective preventive measures.
Develop and deliver training programs focused on mining-specific safety protocols, emergency response procedures, hazard recognition, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Collaborate with mining engineers, supervisors, and contractors to establish and enforce safe work practices, ensuring adherence to mining-specific safety policies and procedures.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of occupational health and safety programs in the mining industry, conducting regular audits, and implementing improvements as necessary.
Stay up to date with evolving mining regulations, standards, and technological advancements, proactively recommending changes to existing policies and procedures to maintain compliance and enhance safety performance.
Develop and maintain emergency response plans specific to mining operations, including evacuation procedures, first aid protocols, and coordination with local emergency services.
Maintain accurate records and documentation related to incidents, inspections, training, and safety data sheets (SDS) for mining-related materials and chemicals.
Foster a strong safety culture within the mining organization, promoting active employee engagement, awareness, and participation in health and safety initiatives.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, Mining Engineering, or a related field. Additional certifications and training in mining safety are highly desirable.
Proven work experience as an Occupational Health and Safety Officer within the mining industry, with a solid understanding of mining operations, hazards, and regulations.
Thorough knowledge of mining-specific occupational health and safety regulations, codes, and standards.
Strong understanding of hazard identification, risk assessment, and control measures specific to mining activities.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate mining-related incidents and develop effective preventive measures.
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced mining environment.
Proficiency in using computer software for data analysis, record-keeping, and report writing.
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with cross-functional teams and mining personnel.
Proactive and self-motivated attitude, with a continuous improvement mindset in mining health and safety.
