Nursing Unit Manager, Mental Health Clinic - Pretoria
Our client, a Mental Health Clinic based in Pretoria, is seeking to recruit a Senior Unit Manager who can also act as the 2IC Nursing Services Manager.
The Unit Manager will be responsible for coordinating improved quality nursing care by ensuring compliance with professional and ethical practices.
As the 2IC Nursing Services Manager, the incumbent will also assist with general management and oversee all operational matters pertaining to nursing operations.
Responsibilities:
Unit Manager:

Manage acuities and skill mix to ensure cost-effective quality care.
Manage costs emanating from the Department.
Ensure correct billing, stock management, and purchasing.
Manage timeous and accurate compilation of files.
Identify quality improvement opportunities and ensure appropriate strategies for quality improvement.
Professional development to maintain a satisfactory level of skill and knowledge.
Keep abreast of current research in the applicable discipline.
Assign decision-making authority, tasks, and responsibilities to appropriate persons to maximize organization and employee effectiveness.
Monitor staff attendance/absenteeism.
Enforce dress code.
Facilitate effective change and conflict management.
Orientation of new staff and students.
Create a positive environment.
Build strategic inter-departmental relationships to help achieve business goals.
Manage effective working relationships with service providers and public liability.

General Management:

Liaise with clinic management and associated external management structures.
Liaise with all regulatory bodies.
Oversee and liaise with all operational unit managers.

Nursing Services:

Assist with developing SOPs & General Policies pertaining to nursing services.
Manage the total quality of nursing care.
Manage administrative policies, procedures, and protocols supporting nursing services.
Coordinate and lead shift handover meetings with senior RNs.
Oversee, monitor, and manage sufficient nursing staff planning.
Provide ongoing training and monitoring of skills obtained.
Compile and implement yearly training schedule.
Performance evaluation of nursing staff.
Promote mentorship and training in the Nursing Unit.
Oversee, monitor, and maintain accurate patient and other records.
Oversee, monitor, and compile shift reports.
Provide high-quality and safe patient care.
Manage and record all incidents and near misses.
Oversee infection prevention and control.
Manage all medical and non-medical stock and equipment in the Nursing Unit.
Oversee and liaise with Medical Management RN and Hospital board.
Oversee, monitor, and liaise with ECT RN.
Manage and oversee Occupational Health & Safety and Quality Control.

General Operational:

Manage and ensure compliance with all regulatory documents and protocols.
Organize and plan with respect to all units of the Hospital and develop updated protocols.
Assist in developing and implementing skills development programs with other unit managers.
Assist in compiling sufficient BBB-EE compliance with relevant service providers.
Assist in HR practices for nursing staff with relevant service providers.
Oversee and liaise in HR practices with unit managers and staff members as needed.
Assist in legal matters in cooperation with the legal team.
Manage patient-related matters and complaints according to hospital protocols.
Oversee total quality and operational housekeeping services in conjunction with unit managers.
Ensure adherence to financial management guidelines with relevant service providers.
Manage efficient staff planning, leave planning, and assist with payroll functions.
Oversee effective storage of all confidential documents.
Organize electronic working files and documents effectively.
Provide prompt and effective feedback communication electronically and telephonically.
Handle high acuity matters promptly and effectively.
Liaise between patients, psychiatrists, MDT Members, ward staff, and family members as needed.
Assist in all managerial tasks as a deputy manager (2IC) when required.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Matric
Diploma in General Nursing at NQF Level 6 or B Cur Degree at NQF Level 7
Management or related NQF 6 or 7 qualification
Valid registration with SANC
Experience in a general ward is essential
Senior Unit Manager experience is essential
Psychiatric experience would be advantageous
Computer literate (compiling messages, emails, and training documents)
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Proficient in Medical administration programs.
Fluent in English & Afrikaans (verbal & written) is required

Working Hours:

As per work schedule with variations according to your contract of employment. 182H/month
08h00 17h00
Once a week 11h00 22h00
On call every 3rd weekend
Overtime if needed to address serious matters.
