NPD Food Technologist – Lancewood / Western CapeReports to: NPD Packaging & Project ManagerLocation: George, Western CapePurpose of the Role:Coordinate, manage and report on new product trials and launches at George production facility and assist with the product administration from the trial to launch phase and post launch review. Provide technical support on packaging related queries and legislative compliance.Key Responsibilities (but not limited to):Strong planning and project co-ordination capabilities to drive products to launch successfully, in accordance with the Lancewood NPD processOn-going and clear communication of project updates with key stakeholders (internal and external)Strong working relationships with all internal teamsEffectively coordinate production trials and communication within George production facilitiesContinuous improvement and cost-saving initiatives pertaining to existing products (formulations and/or packaging elements)Job Summary:Coordinate trials of new products (formulation & packaging) at George production facility and ensure factory trial documentation is completed with all pertinent informationProvide the laboratory with samples of new factory trial products, obtain results and document/communicate test resultsUpdate product information, log results and file correctly (public folder) for easy access by project decision makersKeep a record of all internal ingredients used for trials per project with cost and share with the Finance department each monthConduct on-going shelf-life testing of approved new factory trial products (includes sensory analyses)Identify problem areas arising in trial phase of new products (during production or packing and/or sensory/textural defects) and make recommendations and suggest possible solutions to these problems to team members and managementConfirm the label and artwork integrity of all new products from Lancewood and external clients before it is handed over to the Quality departmentPerform packaging tests on the filling lines (new packaging), and arrange product- and packaging travel testsHelp with redesign of unit packaging, boxes/trays, and/or pallet configurations as requiredProvide technical and administrative support for all private label products and new launchesAttend press passes at suppliers in George, when needed, and communicate with stakeholders for packaging sign offCost saving initiatives and investigationsParticipate and support the implementation of Best Practices and other continuous improvement initiativesParticipate in the implementation of the corrective action and preventative action processesCo-ordinate and assist with product benchmarking, when requiredAccurate tracking of consumables used in George production facilities, to be approved by NPD managers, and submitted to FinanceRole and Personal Capabilities:Thorough understanding of the new product development process and all it entailsThorough understanding of labelling & dairy legislationThorough understanding of packaging technology and processesProven ability to understand and interpret dairy production processes, especially equipment/filling lineComfortable with communicating and interacting with stakeholdersExcellent relationship management skillsStrong interpersonal skillsGood communication skills (both oral and written)Problem-solving skillsExceptional attention to detailAbility to meet deadlinesHigh degree of integrityA self-starter with a strong desire to deliverPassionate with strong communication skillsAbility to multi-task and work under pressureTeam player with a keen interest to learnQualifications and Experience:A relevant tertiary qualification in Food Science / Food TechnologyMinimum 2 years food production experience, preferably within dairy industryProficient in MS OfficeProficiency in SYSPRO will be advantageousProven track record as an effective project coordinatorValid driver's license and own transportWilling to travel as and when requiredApplication:Please e-mail your CV to Emile Lomberg at ****** with a motivation highlighting why you should be considered for the position.Application deadline: 20 September 2024.If you have not received a response within four weeks of the closing date for applications, kindly consider your application unsuccessful.
