Introduction To manage specific projects in the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Teaching & Learning relating to the development and promotion of teaching and learning in areas that include collaborative support to Faculty T-L leadership, engagement with Finance, Facilities and People & Culture on infrastructure and bursary opportunities, continuing education; academic planning; qualification and programme approval, open distance provisioning, quality assurance and institutional reviews; the teaching and learning regulatory environment; risk management and assurance provision; the NWU curriculum project and transformation thereof; and the use of institutional research and management information to support teaching and learning. Other responsibilities and projects will be agreed with the DVC on a dynamic basis.
Job Description KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Enhance the quality of T-L related support to Faculty T-L leadership and professional T-L support leadership through continuous and appropriate collaborative engagements and interventions, inclusive of but not limited to: review and enhancement of the T-L regulatory environment to provide for a stable framework for high quality T-L and assessment; providing opportunities for Faculties and T-L support engagements to enhance and align teaching and learning modalities and progressive/transformed/enabling T-L environments; and monitoring of T-L related agreements with a view to abate all associated risks while enhancing national and international collaboration.Monitor the implementation of the T-L Strategy and its strategic drivers, focusing on governance arrangements for teaching and learning, development and retention of talented staff, enhancing student access and success, and curriculum transformation and renewal to ultimately equip NWU graduates with essential transferable skills and readiness to live and work successfully in the twenty-first century society.Development and implementation of a framework for the review and management of the NWU PQM.Coordination of the development and progress monitoring of the Annual Performance Plan and cyclical enrolment planning at an institutional level.Integration of institutional research to support teaching and learning and academic planning.Coordination of the University's participation in the HEQC systems for institutional reviews.Effective chairing of Senate Sub-Committees as required by the DVC: T-L; efficient presentation of information relating to the DVC: T-L portfolio and to teaching and learning matters of the NWU Senate, the UMC and Council, or on any other platform as required.Other responsibilities as agreed with the DVC: Teaching and Learning.Minimum Requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: A master's degree (NQF 9).A minimum of 10 years' overall specialist experience in a higher education environment of which 6 years should be in higher education management relating to academic planning.A minimum of 5 years' experience in each of the following areas:qualification and programme planning and approvalproject managementhigher education regulation and compliancepolicy analysis and developmentintegrated reporting at a high levelRecommendations Experience of the coordination of institutional participation in HEQC audits.A Doctoral qualification will be an added recommendation.Key Functional/ Technical Competencies A thorough understanding of the regulatory environment relating to the approval, accreditation and registration of academic qualifications and programmes for contact and distance modes of provision.A thorough understanding of Quality Assurance Framework and the HEQC system for institutional audits/reviews.A thorough understanding of the regulatory requirements relating to the provision of short courses.A thorough understanding of the DHET's framework for enrolment planning.Understanding of the use of electronic platforms for presentation to end users.The ability to manage the relationship between the institutional teaching and learning portfolio and the NWU web and intranet.Proven experience in managing processes relating to the approval and accreditation of formal academic qualifications and programmes; and short courses.The ability to define and use relevant institutional information and statistics to support teaching and learning and academic planning.Computer and information literacy, including MS Office and Excel.Behavioural Competencies The ability to work in a multilingual and multi campus environment.Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.Remuneration The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
