Network Engineer (Nap Africa)

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Key areas include system uptime (NAPAfrica, Africa Cloud Exchange, Extra Connect, office network WAN+Breakout) and successful deployment of new and existing infrastructure (NAPAfrica, Africa Cloud Exchange, Extra Connect, office network (WAN+Breakout).
Part of the duties will be to travel to the outside stations on an ad hoc basis for upgrades and changes.
This role must be available to work after hours and be on standby.
This role will also need you to be the escalation point for the Tier 1 resource.
Note: this role has a requirement to support all sites and therefore includes occasional travel to DBN and CPT as well as local travel between sites in Johannesburg.
OBJECTIVES MAIN FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

Network troubleshooting and support, predominately layer 2.
Adhoc admin.
Interaction with clients, vendors and service providers.
Interactive relationship with management.
Incident Management of systems supported: Incident response, notification, resolution & logging.
Problem management of systems supported: Resolution and logging.
Involvement in the design of the network & maintenance of network documentation.
Configuring, Installing, and maintaining network switches.
Compliance to all policies and procedures, including strict compliance to Teraco's information security policies and procedures.
Identification & escalation of information security risk, as it relates to network and other areas of responsibility.
Incident response and management; Problem resolution within agreed timelines.
Afterhours support
Stock control of optics, cables, devices etc.
SKILLS REQUIREMENT

Excellent interpersonal relations.
Excellent verbal and writing skills.
Excellent understanding of structured cabling

Working experience in the ICT sector an advantage

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Matric.
Technical qualification or experience advantageous – Arista, Juniper, EdgeCore, Mikrotik, Cisco, ADVA.
Experience in a networking role is advantageous.
Accustomed to working in a fast-paced environment.
Technical competence and understanding are vital.
Basic Linux experience advantageous.
Understanding of switching and routing and their related technologies, TCP/IP, IP Addressing, VPN Technology, BGP, Peering would be preferred.
Valid South African Driver's License
