Mine Manager (Opencast Coal)

Key Responsibilities: Operational Management:Plan, coordinate, and oversee all mining activities to ensure the achievement of production targetsDevelop and implement short- and long-term operational plansMonitor and manage equipment, ensuring high utilization and minimal downtimeHealth, Safety, and Environment (HSE):Enforce compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulationsLead safety initiatives to achieve zero harm and create a strong safety cultureEnsure proper handling, storage, and disposal of materials to minimize environmental impactTeam Leadership:Manage and develop a multidisciplinary team, including engineers, geologists, operators, and support staffSet performance goals, conduct regular reviews, and provide trainingFoster effective communication and collaboration among departmentsFinancial Management:Prepare and manage the mines budget, controlling costs while optimizing resourcesAnalyze operational data to identify cost-saving opportunitiesCollaborate with the finance team to ensure timely and accurate reportingCompliance and Reporting:Ensure adherence to local and national mining laws and regulationsSubmit regular reports on production, safety, and operational performance to stakeholdersLiaise with government authorities and community stakeholders as neededStrategic Planning:Identify opportunities for process improvement and innovationEvaluate new technologies or methods to enhance productivity and sustainabilityParticipate in feasibility studies and expansion projectsMinimum Requirements:Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, or a related field (a postgraduate qualification is advantageous)Minimum of 810 years in open-pit mining, with at least 35 years in a managerial roleRelevant mine managers certification of competency (depending on the country)Safety certifications (e.g., First Aid, HSE Management)Proven track record in opencast coal operationsStrong leadership and decision-making abilitiesIn-depth knowledge of mining software and tools (e.g., Surpac, MineSight)Excellent communication and stakeholder management skillsFinancial acumen and ability to manage budgets effectivelyStrategic thinker with a proactive approachCommitted to sustainability and ethical mining practicesAdaptable and able to handle high-pressure situations effectively
