Description: About us:
The Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering (MIE) is home to about 60 professors leading research on a very broad range of topics. On the Industrial Engineering side, research areas include Operations Research, Information Engineering, Human Factors, and Applied Machine Learning, all of which seek to improve the systems we as humans rely on to navigate our world. On the Mechanical Engineering side, research areas include Robotics, Mechanics & Design, Materials, and Thermofluids, topics that are applied to applications including manufacturing, energy production, and bioengineering.
We are also home to about 2,000 very talented students: about 1,300 undergraduates are enrolled in the Industrial Engineering and in the Mechanical Engineering BASc programs. We have about 350 Master of Engineering (MEng) students, a professional program for students taking courses with us for a year or two. And we have about 350 MASc and PhD students, who work individually on research projects with a particular professor.

Your opportunity:
As part of the MIE Graduate Office, the incumbent will work exclusively with the Master of Engineering (MEng) Program, advising international and domestic students on the program requirements. They will review and assess admission applications, as well as track and check the completeness of applications. The incumbent will also welcome students during the orientation and will be responsible for the orientation presentation during the start of each academic year.
Your responsibilities will include: Advising students on program and/or course requirements by probing and providing a range of options and possible consequences.Reviewing and assessing admissions applications.Checking completeness of applications and tracking the status of applications.Keeping well-informed on policies, rules, regulations and guidelines.Handling sensitive and/or confidential information.Providing basic support and general referrals to individuals in distress.Serving as a resource to others by providing (non-supervisory) job-related guidance.Maintaining information on digital platforms.Essential Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.Minimum three (3) years of relevant experience in customer service, and/or student front-line support.Must have relevant experience advising students on academic matters.Demonstrated experience providing front-line customer service to post-secondary students and appropriately addressing and referring inquiries in a timely manner.Must have experience with graduate student admissions & related systems.Experience working with databases and producing reports.Experience working with and processing data in student information systems such as ROSI, ACORN, Slate or equivalent systems.Excellent problem solving, judgment, and analytical skills, with the demonstrated ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.Excellent verbal and written communications skills; ability to understand complex information and policies and successfully translate them to students.Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and the promotions of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment.Demonstrated ability to create and ensure a welcoming environment for all members of the diverse community of students, staff, and faculty.Proven collaborative and teamwork skills while having the ability to work independently and effectively as well.Proven ability to deal with matters of extreme sensitivity and confidentiality with tact and discretion.High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.Ability to prioritize competing demands and exercise a high degree of initiative.Ability to work well under pressure, organize work, establish priorities, and meet deadlines.Assets (Nonessential): Experience providing administrative support to a graduate program.To be successful in this role you will be: AccountableDecisiveGoal orientedMulti-taskerResilientClosing Date: 10/09/2024, 11:59PM ET
