Medical Advisor - Clinical Assessor (Disability and Incapacity Assessments)
Our client, based in Menlyn, Pretoria, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical Doctor to join their team as a Medical Advisor. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting clinical assessments to determine disability and incapacity status for individuals. Your medical expertise will play a vital role in providing informed opinions, advising on disability claims, and supporting the organisation's occupational health initiatives.
Key Responsibilities: Clinical Assessment:
Perform comprehensive medical assessments to evaluate the extent of disability or incapacity.
Review and interpret medical reports, diagnostic results, and patient histories to provide thorough evaluations.
Assess functional capabilities and limitations, considering both physical and mental health aspects.
Medical Opinion and Reporting:
Offer clear, evidence-based medical opinions on an individual's capacity to work or perform daily activities.
Prepare detailed reports and documentation to support disability and incapacity claims, ensuring adherence to relevant guidelines and legal standards.
Communicate findings effectively to relevant stakeholders, including patients, employers, insurers, and legal teams.
Advisory Role:
Act as a medical advisor to the organization on issues related to disability, incapacity, and occupational health.
Collaborate with occupational health teams, HR, and legal departments to develop strategies for managing disability and incapacity cases.
Advise on workplace accommodations, return-to-work plans, and reasonable adjustments for employees with disabilities.
Compliance and Standards:
Ensure all assessments and medical opinions comply with current clinical guidelines, legal requirements, and best practices.
Stay informed about changes in medical standards, disability law, and occupational health trends.
Engage in continuous professional development and training to maintain and enhance clinical assessment skills.
Qualifications: Medical degree (MBChB or equivalent)
Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
Valid and active medical license to practice in South Africa.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in clinical practice, focusing on disability assessment, occupational health, or related fields.
Additional qualifications or certifications in occupational medicine, disability assessment, or a related speciality are highly desirable.
Skills and Competencies: Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic abilities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to provide clear, objective, and evidence-based medical opinions.
Knowledge of relevant disability and occupational health laws and regulations.
