JOB PURPOSE The Mechanical Technician is the custodian of PM (Planned Maintenance) in his/her respective area and is responsible for the refurbishment and modification of equipment or machinery. He/she is required to lead the problem-solving teams for chronic breakdowns and support planned maintenance, Professional Maintenance philosophies and inspections. The Mechanical Technician will also be responsible for establishing standards and cascading these in the form of training to Artisans.
WHAT WILL YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES BE Machine installation including leveling and alignmentFault finding and problem solving on all manufacturing machineryAble to identify deviations and non-conforming items on equipmentAble to assess exactly what steps to take to rectify these deviations and non-conformancesMake recommendations for continuous improvementsRaise both Safety and Engineering TagsParticipate in the continuous revision and updating of standardsRaise One Point Lessons and cascade these to othersRaise Kaizens that will improve efficiencyUpdate UMS boards as requiredEnsure that any breakdowns or short stops in area of responsibility are recordedCarry out the work required to an exceptional standard as well as identify any further potential problems that might be visible.Ability to plan and execute the work that needs to be done to the machinery i.e. print out machine performance report, order or gather the required spareWork on the lathe to turn and manufacture key items for modification purposesLead and support the refurbishment of plant equipment.Ensure availability of key spares from the factory.Develop technical skills of other engineering staffWork with Assistant Engineer to coordinate, prioritize and allocate work of Artisans for the maintenance of plant equipmentImplement effective maintenance practices in area of responsibilityTake responsibility for, and support team decisions.Control and execute work against allocated budgetCoordinate activities of contractors on site operationsComplete all required documentation to standardMaintain and update documentation of check sheets, maintenance tasks and job codes.Safety Ensure that Company safety rules and regulations are adhered to within the sphere of responsibility.Assist with maintaining Unilever safety and 5S standards in the area of responsibility.AM Complete tags in area of responsibility to the completion ratio required.WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED Experiences & Qualifications National Diploma or BTech in Mechanical Engineering or N6 Diploma in Mechanical Engineering and Mechanical Trade Test (or equivalent)5 years Technical Experience in a maintenance environmentRelevant experience in manufacturing machineryExperience in turning or operation of lathe and milling machineWorking knowledge of different types and applications of pumps, valves, heat exchangers, conveyors, fluid mechanics, different types of materials, welds, operation of the lathe and fans.Able to read and understand engineering drawings.Skills Engineering skills (Mechanical)PC skills (SAP, Access, Outlook, Microsoft Office)Problem-solving skillsAnalytical AbilityProactiveInfluencing SkillsTeam PlayerGood communicator and demonstrates willingness to share expertise and knowledge.Leadership Critical SOL (Standards of Leadership) BehaviorsPASSION FOR HIGH PERFORMANCE: Takes personal responsibility and accountability for execution and results.
