AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY
Qualifications and Experience required:
Education: Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting, or a related field.
Certification: CAD software certification (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or CATIA ) is highly preferred.
Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with mechanical design principles, manufacturing processes, and industry standards (e.g., ASME, ISO).
Drafting Experience: 1-3 years of experience in mechanical drafting or design in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
Software Proficiency: Proven expertise in CAD software and 3D modeling tools.
Technical Knowledge: Hands-on experience with measurement tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers) and an understanding of mechanical systems and materials.
Project Collaboration: Experience working in multidisciplinary teams to achieve design objectives.
Responsibilities:
Technical Drafting: Create accurate 2D and 3D drawings for mechanical components, systems, and assemblies using CAD software.
Design Revisions: Update and refine designs based on feedback from engineers, clients, or project teams.
Standards Adherence: Ensure all designs comply with industry standards, company guidelines, and safety regulations.
Collaboration: Work with engineers, architects, and manufacturing teams to ensure designs are practical and manufacturable.
Documentation: Maintain organized records of drawings, design changes, and associated technical documents.
Measurement and Verification: Conduct on-site measurements or inspections to verify design accuracy and feasibility.
Problem-Solving: Identify design challenges and propose solutions to optimize efficiency and performance.
Prototype Support: Provide accurate designs and data for the development and testing of prototypes.
Time Management: Ensure all assigned tasks and projects are completed within the specified deadlines.
Continuous Improvement: Suggest process improvements to enhance drafting efficiency and design quality.
Software, Equipment and Job Purpose:
Software
CAD Software : AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar for creating technical drawings.
3D Modelling Software : Inventor, Fusion 360, or similar for advanced 3D designs.
Office Tools : Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) for documentation and reporting.
PLM Software : Product Lifecycle Management tools (e.g., Siemens Teamcenter, PTC Windchill) for design management.
Equipment
High-performance computer with a graphics processor capable of handling CAD applications.
Large-format printers/plotters for producing blueprints and technical drawings.
Tools
Measurement Devices : Callipers, micrometres, and other tools to reference and verify physical dimensions.
Drafting Accessories : Protractors, rulers, and scales for manual checks or supplemental design work.
Machinery
Knowledge of manufacturing machinery (e.g., CNC machines, lathes) to ensure designs are compatible with production capabilities.
Access to 3D printers for prototype development (optional, depending on the organization).
