Mechanical Design Engineer Our client an establish turnkey engineering company based in Johannesburg North, is currently looking to hire an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer. The successful candidate must bring a minimum of 6+ years of relevant experience demonstrating expertise in the design function. The selected candidate must work independently without creating risks with unilateral decision making.
Minimum Requirements Degree BEng/BSc/ BTech Eng (NQF Level 08) Proficient in Solidworks 5 Years' Experience with proven track record in the Bulk Materials Handling Industry. Own vehicle and Valid Driver's License. Previous experience with employee management.
Roles and Responsibilities Research and Development: Lead the creation of intellectual property by researching and developing innovative mechanical applications and marketable equipment, particularly in bulk material handling and the agricultural industry. Feasibility Studies and Conceptual Design: Conduct detailed feasibility and analytical studies to evaluate new technologies and develop conceptual designs. Engineering Expertise: Apply proficiency in stress analysis, heat transfer, design for manufacturing, and material strength analysis. Design and Drafting: Produce detailed drawings, layouts, and designs in SolidWorks, ensuring accuracy and adherence to project specifications. Fit-for-Purpose Design: Ensure designs meet client requirements, are cost-effective, efficient to manufacture, and suitable for practical application. Manufacturing Alignment: Develop drawings that align with manufacturing practices and are clear for execution by boilermakers and other trades. Technical Evaluation: Perform technical evaluations of tenders, providing recommendations for design, costing, and technical documentation. Project Management: Oversee projects from concept to implementation, managing turnkey solutions with accountability for deliverables. Operational Assessment: Assess operational practices on projects and plants, proposing innovative, practical, and sellable solutions for system optimisation. Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Provide mechanical and electronic engineering solutions, liaising with other disciplines to deliver comprehensive, user-aligned results. Design Validation: Utilise engineering calculations and software tools for flow dynamics, discrete element modeling, and material strength analysis, delivering validated design reports. Documentation: Prepare detailed material handling equipment documentation, including equipment data sheets, specifications, and scope of work. Information Management: Maintain comprehensive records of product development processes, intellectual property, drawings, and documentation. Supplier Coordination: Assist in component sourcing, supplier selection, and liaise with contractors to review and coordinate drawings and documents. Consultant Collaboration: Work with third-party engineering consultants to develop specialized solutions and designs. Project Delivery: Organise personnel, suppliers, and consultants to ensure timely delivery of projects with minimal rework. Quality Assurance: Review all project documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with standards. Progress Reporting: Prepare progress reports and payment certificates to ensure project transparency and accountability. Industry Engagement: Stay updated with advancements in the bulk material handling and agricultural sectors. Site Operations: Conduct site visits, supervision, commissioning, and inspections as required. Adherence to Standards: Follow all company policies, procedures, and industry regulations
