A well-established and reputable engineering company based in Paarl is in need of a Mechanical Designer. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 1 – 7 years of design experience within the engineering industry.
You will be responsible for but not limited to:
Work according to Project Schedule – Manage your design time accordingly to the project schedule set out for each project.
The design of machines relevant to the appropriate project at hand.
Design according to the design recipe.
Components for clients regarding warranty replacements, wear & tear, breakdowns, or direct sales of components. Responsible for ordering/fabrication of components and arranging delivery to the client.
General admin throughout the designing process.
Fault reports – Maintain an Excel sheet that reports mistakes made on a design and their impact on the fabrication/installation process.
Time Sheets – Report the appropriate time spent on each task in an Excel sheet.
Follow up on orders – Ensure components submitted to the buyer via a MOR have been ordered/arrived.
Quality Control – Walk through the workshop 2 – 3 times a day to check jobs in the fabrication process.
Follow up on Laser cutting – Maintain communication regarding laser cut parts and ETAs of each job submitted, providing feedback to the team.
Internal Project Management – Act as the drawing office coordinator of the project, which involves:
Setting up final layout drawings and side view developments.
Coordination between design and installation.
Site visits - Ensure correct information from the drawing office is carried over to the site.
Constant updates on the project schedule indicating the progress of each task allocated to everyone. This must be done at least twice a week, reporting feedback to the Head of Projects.
Design input/solutions – Provide ideas regarding design, brainstorming solutions to particular problems or making components more efficient.
Data Pack Overview – Review a colleague's design and check the data pack, providing notes of adjustments to complete it for issue.
Designers Manual – Capture the critical design criteria of machines throughout the designing process.
Jigs Design – Design a jig if the component/machine fits the following requirements:
A high number of components/machines need to be made for a project.
Repeatability of the job.
Standardization – Standardizing certain components/machines to fit in any situation, providing necessary formulas indicating the appropriate application.
Requirements:
Matric.
National Diploma / B.Tech (Mechanical Engineering).
Previous experience within the engineering environment is highly advantageous.
Computer Literacy: MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), AutoCAD & Inventor.
Skills:
Excellent Afrikaans & English communication skills.

Strong analytical skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
