PURPOSE OF ROLE The Mechanical Design Engineer (Nuclear) is responsible for producing quality technical outputs which satisfy all requirements (Clients, Codes and Standards) by adhering to internal engineering processes. The position is a technical role, with interface and liaison with the client and other outside parties.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS Mechanical Tenders and Designs:Reviewing clients' requirements in Works Information / User Requirements Specification / Technical Requirement Specification documents to determine project scope for electrical.Participating in concept design development.Doing site investigations and research on system designs for brownfields project, as part of process for obtaining input information.Performing functional system design through process and mechanical calculations, e.g. sizing of equipment.Compiling/reviewing safety screenings, safety evaluations, safety justifications as part of the assessment on nuclear safety for mechanical designs.Compiling technical specifications for the procurement of equipment and services.Compilation of Bill of Quantities (BOQs) and applying equipment classifications (safety/seismic/quality/environment/importance class/RD-0034).Provide inputs for project cost estimations.Compilation of tender proposal documents.Assisting with commercial proposals for tender proposals, as needed.Providing input for schedule development.Ensuring all plant documentation associated with the project are updated as part of the design.Compiling detailed designs for projects.Managing the interfaces with other disciplines.Compiling safety cases for installation as an input to the installation documentation for projects.Assistance during the fabrication phase of all projects.Participating in testing and commissioning.Signing off on installations to certify design conformity.Ensuring compliance to company and project technical and QA requirements.QUALIFICATIONS BSc Eng or B. Eng in Mechanical Engineering.Registered with ECSA as a Professional Engineer.Minimum 10 years relevant multi-disciplinary project design experience in Nuclear, preferably on PWR facilities.Authorised Safety Evaluator in terms of 10 CFR 50.59, or equivalent is preferred.Completed the Nuclear Engineering Course as presented at Koeberg, or equivalent is preferred.COMPETENCIES Skills: Good technical report writing skills.Proficiency in Microsoft Office.Problem solving ability.Good communication skills.Good planning, organizing, administration and time management skills.Behaviour: Able to work in a multi-disciplinary environment.Ability to operate under pressure.Ability to work independently.Attention to detail.Good people skills, assertiveness, a pro-active disposition.Ability and willingness to work flexible hours including traveling to project sites.A very strong team player.Knowledge: Familiar with nuclear codes and standards.Familiar with the OHS Act and its Regulations and how it applies.Familiar with the principles of ISO, ASME, IAEA quality systems.Should you not hear from us within 21 days of the closing of the advert, kindly regard your application to have been unsuccessful.
