This position is responsible for complex mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, overseeing less-experienced technicians, and ensuring that repairs are completed to manufacturer standards. The ideal candidate will possess a high level of technical expertise, particularly with commercial truck systems, and demonstrate leadership within a fast-paced workshop environment. This is permanent employment to be based in Eastern Mpumalanga. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Diagnostics and Troubleshooting: Conduct advanced diagnostics and troubleshooting for mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems on commercial trucks. Utilize specialized diagnostic tools and software to accurately diagnose and resolve complex issues. Work closely with service advisors to provide accurate repair estimates and communicate diagnosis and repair needs. Repair and Maintenance: Perform complex repairs and maintenance tasks on engines, transmissions, drivetrains, and other critical truck components according to manufacturer specifications. Conduct preventative maintenance on commercial trucks, ensuring optimal performance and longevity. Ensure all work is completed to safety standards, manufacturer guidelines, and dealership policies. Technical Expertise and Leadership: Serve as the technical expert within the workshop, providing guidance and mentorship to junior technicians. Stay updated with the latest technology, equipment, and repair techniques for commercial vehicles, attending training sessions as required. Assist with developing and implementing best practices for repair and maintenance to improve workshop efficiency. Quality Assurance: Conduct quality checks on completed repairs to ensure adherence to high-quality standards. Complete all warranty and documentation requirements accurately, maintaining detailed records for quality control. Handle complex warranty claims in coordination with the warranty administrator, providing technical insights where necessary. Customer Service: Support service advisors with technical information to address customer inquiries and ensure customer satisfaction. Maintain professional relationships with customers, offering clear explanations of repair needs and expected outcomes. EDUCATION, QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS: Technical certification in diesel mechanics, automotive repair, or a related field. Advanced training or certification as a Master Technician is required. Min of 5-7 years of experience in commercial truck repair and maintenance, with a strong track record in diagnostics and advanced repairs. Proficiency with diagnostic tools and software specific to commercial trucks (e.g., OEM software, Snap-On, Bosch). In-depth knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, electrical systems, and commercial truck components. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with attention to detail. Excellent communication skills to interact with team members and customers. Leadership abilities to mentor and guide junior technicians effectively. A valid drivers license with a preference for candidates with a Commercial Drivers License (CDL). Ability to work flexible hours and occasional overtime to meet customer needs.
