Introduction Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) is a public not-for-profit institution that exhibits, collects, preserves, and researches contemporary art from Africa and its diaspora; conceives and hosts international exhibitions; develops supporting educational, discursive, and enrichment programs; encourages intercultural understanding; and strives for access for all.
The museum's galleries feature rotating, temporary exhibitions with dedicated spaces for the permanent collection. The institution also includes the Centre for Art Education (CFAE), and the Atelier, a project space for emerging Cape Town-based artists.

Purpose of the Role The Managing Editor role reports to the Director of Institutional Advancement. Responsible for activities related to the conception and implementation of editorial, publishing, and written materials. The role manages and contributes to the creation and editing of written materials as well as publishing output generated by the museum's Curatorial and other Departments. This includes gathering, creation and editing of texts and copy for the museum including press releases, newsletters, crisis communications, annual report, exhibition key messaging, publications and website copy.

What you will need to be successful in the roleBachelor's degree in Humanities, the Arts or other relevant discipline, Communications, Marketing or related field, PR/Journalism/Political Science/Media StudiesMinimum of 3 years' copy writing and editing experience within a cultural, museum context would be to an advantageExcellent ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all levelsAbility and experience in writing, copy editing academic/analytical texts and working knowledge of various writing format and citation styles (Oxford, Cambridge etc.)Exceptional editing, proof reading and research skillsDemonstrate ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and effectivelyStrong interpersonal skills and ability to engage at all levelsExcellent planning organisational and time management skillsStrong ability to work with a calm demeanor when times of pressure and demonstrate resilienceBe highly creative and imaginativeHave strong emotional intelligence to engage with individuals and diverse teamsAbility to work independently and within a teamDeliver good quality and standard of work within the agreed timeframes
