This role is critical in ensuring compliance, managing relationships with tax authorities, and mitigating tax risks in various African jurisdictions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in tax management, extensive experience in effectively managing external tax consultants, and a proven ability to resolve complex tax issues. We are open to consider candidates from the following locations: Johannesburg- South Africa; Dar- es Salaam- Tanzania. This position reports to the Head of Tax for the EMEA region.What you will be doingTax Audits Management:Oversee and coordinate all tax audits across multiple African countries, ensuring timely, thorough, and effective responses to tax authorities.Act as the primary liaison with tax authorities, coordinating the provision of documentation and managing all audit-related communications.Collaborate closely with external tax consultants, providing guidance and oversight to ensure audit responses meet company standards and regulatory requirements.Handling Tax Issues and Controversies:Manage and resolve tax-related issues and controversies, identifying potential tax risks and developing strategies to mitigate them.Work alongside external advisors and consultants, directing their efforts to develop optimal solutions for complex disputes and minimize adverse tax outcomes.Track and document all tax disputes and issues, maintaining an organized record for future reference and risk management.Process Improvement:Analyze outcomes from audits, identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement in tax compliance processes and controls.Lead the development and implementation of process improvements, ensuring alignment with local regulations and corporate policies.Drive knowledge-sharing and training initiatives for internal teams based on audit findings and regulatory changes.Engage and manage relationships with external tax consultants, ensuring efficient and cost-effective delivery of services.Monitor consultant performance, providing feedback and guidance to align their support with business objectives and compliance standards.Effectively allocate consultant resources to prioritize high-risk areas and ensure optimal utilization.Act as the primary advisor on African tax matters, proactively supporting business decisions and transactions with informed tax guidance.Contribute to the planning and execution of tax strategies that balance tax optimization with compliance.Collaborate with internal finance and operations teams, addressing tax inquiries and supporting strategic growth in the region.What you will bringQualifications:Certified/ qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CPA, or equivalent), specializing in tax.Experience:Minimum of 8- 10 years specializing in tax management, with proven experience in handling tax audits, issues, and controversies.Extensive experience managing tax consultants effectively, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives and maximizing service value.•Demonstrable experience working with tax authorities across multiple African countries.Skills:Exceptional communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to manage relationships with both tax authorities and external consultants.Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a history of implementing process improvements based on audit results.Proven advisory skills, delivering clear, practical, and strategic tax advice to business stakeholders.What we offerAs part of a truly global company, you will have the ability to grow and learn in a diverse, collaborative culture.
