In line with growing its capability, an exciting opportunity for an experienced Manager: Student Governance and Co-curricular Programmes is available within the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Student Development and Support.The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the implementation of diverse projects, including maintaining control of project planning, schedules, resources, execution, budgets, risks/issues and reporting. Forming part of the SDS Leadership Forum, the Manager: Student Governance and Co-Curricular programmes works closely with all SDS Departments and other key internal and external partners.Reporting to the Executive Assistant to the DVC, the successful incumbent will be responsible for planning, organising and implementing student governance and training projects. Assume full responsibility for student governance and the training programme of the SRC and its affiliated structures, including student governance review to strengthen student voice, working together with the team that coordinates the Student Leadership Incubator Programme; Managing the co-curricular programmes and setting up of the Co-curricular Fund Task Team to review student project/programme proposals; Coordinating and management of the SRC inauguration, induction and handover from the previous SRC. Identify training opportunities and mentoring programmes for the SRC and other student governance areas.Key Performance Areas:Planning, organising and implementing specific student governance and training projectsImplementing an Integrated Annual Student Leadership ProgrammeAssuming full responsibility for student governance and the training programme of the SRC and its affiliated structures, including student governance review to strengthen student voiceTogether with the SRC, design a process that focuses on the implementation of the Student Governance Constitution in consultation with the student structures (The Student Assembly)Playing an oversight role over the work of the Student AssemblyDesigning and implementing the SRC leadership coachingprogramme.Assisting in coordinating and implementation of the Student Leadership Incubator Programme and management of co-curricular programmesManaging the co-curricular programmes and setting up of the Co-curricular Fund Task Team to review student project/programme proposalsCoordinating and management of the SRC inauguration, induction and handover from the previous SRC.Identifying training opportunities and mentoring programme for the SRC and other student governance areas.Ensuring that there is a framework that guides the implementation of the SRC programme and monitoring and evaluation thereof.Resolving and/or addressing escalating conflicts/issues in a timely fashionHonours degree or equivalent Postgraduate Diploma (NQF 8)Must have at least 5 years of relevant experience in higher educationWith three years' management experience and a minimum of 3 years proven track record in managing projectsProficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft Office, MS ProjectRequired Competencies: skills, knowledge, and behavioural attributesKnowledge of student governance as an important area within higher educationKnowledge of different strategies and approaches to promoting a responsive and accountable student leadershipFamiliarity with policy development and facilitating broader involvement of different student organisationsProven track record of successfully delivering projectsExcellent abilities in public communications and consensus-buildingAct as a positive change agent within the Office of the DVC, SDS Division, and internal and external to the university.Facilitate team and stakeholder meetings effectivelyHold regular status meetings with project team, business sponsor and other stakeholder groupsEffectively communicates relevant project information to the person you report toDeliver engaging, informative, well-organized presentationsUnderstand how to communicate difficult/sensitive information tactfully
