Sanlam Life and Savings (SLS) is focused on serving our retail and corporate clients in South Africa and further developing our strategic advantages in the South African market. Sanlam Life and Savings consists of three clusters - Sanlam Corporate and Sanlam Retail Affluent. The Sanlam Life and Savings Office provides strategic direction, coordination and support to the three clusters, as well as performing governance oversight that includes assurance provided by second line of defense functions in SLS, to enable us to meet our business objectives.
Output/Core Tasks of SRS, Glacier and SC modelling team: Development and maintenance of various SRA and SC Prophet models (and related tools) used in the valuation process, solvency calculation and related calculationsReview and enhancement of specifications for model changesRigorous testing of model changes to meet or exceed our clients' needsModel governance and comprehensive documentationSupport with the implementation of models into Production environments by delivering quality models on agreed upon dates, engaging with valuation teams should issues be encountered.Peer review of team members' work, checking for adherence to coding standards and consistency across different models.Assistance with ad-hoc tasks and investigations in the SRA and SC Actuarial teamHandling of technical queries from Prophet users and assistance in other administrative tasks such as onboarding new users and coordinating upgrading of software/hardware used by the Prophet systemsInteracting with the modelling specialists across the Sanlam business and other SRA teams (e.g., Pricing team) to assist with development and coordination on larger multi-model projects.Developing and implementing models for new ventures, including reporting on the monthly results.What will make you successful in this role?Requirements: Qualifications: Nearly or Qualified ActuaryExperience and skills: Demonstrated modelling skills, ideally using Prophet softwareAbility to grasp complex and technical conceptsStrong analytical thinking skillsAbility to manage a small technical teamAbility to work independently and meet deadlinesExemplary planning and organizational skillsSuperb verbal and written communication skillsAbility to critically review specifications, model changes and documentationA positive attitude with a willingness and eagerness to learnFamiliarity with handling/analysing data in databases or related programming languages is usefulPersonal Attributes Business insight - Contributing through others
