Description: Reporting to the Assistant Director, Operations, and working closely with colleagues across ITS, CRIS and CTSI, the Manager, Research & Collaborative Applications is responsible for managing both the services and the team that provides ongoing administration of enterprise research and collaborative systems and applications, including but not limited to Data Collection/Survey solutions (e.g. REDCap), computational solutions (e.g. JupyterHub), Video-Mediated Collaboration systems (e.g. Zoom) and AI tools (e.g. Copilot Studio).
In consultation with the ARC Assistant Director and ARC Director, key duties include taking responsibility for the health and success of the ARC research and collaboration environment by providing oversight for the installation, support, administration, and maintenance of relevant enterprise systems and applications, the allocation and prioritization of human resources, working collaboratively with staff in ITS, the Centre for Research & Innovation Support, the Centre for Teaching Support & Innovation, and members of the broader University of Toronto community.
Along with the Director and other ARC managers, the Manager, Research & Collaborative Applications helps lead the overall Academic, Research & Collaborative Technologies team that ensures users of ARC initiatives and systems have an outstanding experience. The Manager contributes their specific technical and organizational expertise to the team and has a strong understanding that their actions have an effect far beyond the specifics of any one project or initiative.
 
Qualifications: EDUCATION:
University degree in Library/Information Science, Computer Science, or acceptable combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of five (5) years of practical experience in supporting educational/academic and/or collaborative technologies. Demonstrated ability to manage complex support environments and to resolve issues; Experience in developing documentation and standards would be an asset. Specific knowledge and experience with our current ARC systems, and an overall understanding of the University of Toronto environment would be a significant asset. Experience managing staff, preferably in a unionized environment.
SKILLS
Excellent oral and written communication, research, presentation and interpersonal skills. Ability to prioritize and demonstrated excellent time management. Ability to successfully manage relationships with peers, clients and vendors. Ability to exercise judgment, tact, discretion, initiative and determination. Independent decision-making capability and pro-active problem-solving skills. Superior organizational skills in planning and project management.
OTHER
Knowledge of research and collaborative technologies principles, operations, industry best practices, emerging technologies and roadmap futures.
