Job description
The University of Johannesburg invites suitably qualified individuals to apply for the following position at market-related remuneration package.
The Incumbent will be expected to:
Responsibilities:
Authorise journals and student refunds
Administer all operational daily activities on accounts
Authorise general payments related to bursaries and financial aid
Prepare monthly reconciliation
Prepare analysis and relevant information for management reporting
Manage Student Finance awareness campaign process in conjunction with the Senior Manager
Manage the execution of identified strategies within Student Finance
Management of bursaries function
Perform other ad hoc tasks as requested by the line manager
Enforce the University policy and procedures regarding bursaries and financial aid
Ensure timeous compilation of the Bursaries Booklet and procedures
Assist the Senior Manager in planning, coordinating, and managing the annual budget for bursaries division
Provide relevant statistics to Management
Liaise with clients regarding academic results, arrangements, and bursaries-related inquiries
Build and strengthen relationships between Internal and External Stakeholders at UJ
Liase with the Student Enrolment Centre
Liase with auditors (internal and external) during the annual UJ audit
Liase with the SRC about ad hoc situations related to students
Manage staff, prepare work schedules, and assign specific duties
Encourage and build mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members
Manage, review and approve bursaries and allowances
Minimum requirements
B. Com Degree with Accountancy or a relevant financial qualification (NQF 7) degree
Minimum of three to five years' finance-related experience
Minimum 3 years' managerial experience
Flexibility to work on all 4 campuses as and when required
Experience in working on ITS and Oracle computer systems will be an advantage
Competencies and Behavioural Attributes:
Solid understanding and application of basic accounting principles, fair credit practices and collection regulations
Proven ability to calculate, post and manage accounting figures and financial records
Customer service orientation and negotiation skills
A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
Advanced Computer literacy in MS Office (Word and Excel)
Good accounting skills
The ability to function independently in a high-pressure environment
Good interpersonal relations skills and a client-service orientation
Good people management and conflict resolution skills
Ability to build relationships with clients and internal departments.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and time management skills.
High level of accuracy, efficiency, and accountability.
Good planning, listening and organising skills
Recommendations:
Excellent understanding of accounting principles
Ability to work under pressure with large volumes
Good conflict management and decision-making skills
Proficiency in English
