The incumbent will be responsible for the development of an external communication strategy that is in line with the CSIR Marketing and Communication Strategy. The incumbent will be expected to oversee the implementation of activities related to this plan, and to communicate the CSIR vision, strategy and values externally. The position is based in Pretoria.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and implement an external communications strategy in line with the overall CSIR strategic objectives taking into consideration existing brand, corporate and other communication strategies and plans.Manage the CSIR External Communications portfolio.Establish and maintain relationships both formal and informal with key public and private stakeholders and the media, at all levels.Provide reports to the Group Manager: Communications, including status updates on marketing and communication activities.Enhance the organisation's profile in the media and manage reputational risks.Create awareness for science, technology and innovation, considering the CSIR's role in the National System of Innovation.Collaborate closely with CSIR parliamentary liaison staff, providing strategic guidance and input.Manage and oversee CSIR events within the context of change management strategies, talent management as well as brand and reputation management issues.Provide leadership and guidance across the CSIR on event management, coordination, planning and execution.Entrench and uphold high-quality, consistent eventing, in line with CSIR brand and policies.Oversee the implementation of CSIR outreach programmes.Oversee the operational implementation of CSIR media strategies and plans.Ensure consistent brand identity across multiple web platforms and media.Collaborate with various CSIR portfolios to ensure seamless CSIR stakeholder management.Assume responsibility for correct and up-to-date CSIR content on all digital platforms.Manage and oversee the full media portfolio, including media releases, enquiries, briefings and partnerships.Oversee the budget for external communication; develop and manage all external communication budgets.Qualifications, Skills And ExperienceA Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Media Studies with at least eight to ten years experience in the communications environment with a solid track record in:Development and implementation of external communication strategies.Management and promotion of brands, corporate strategies and values.Management of events.Management of projects.Management of a diverse team of professionals.Stakeholder interaction: government, the private sector and media.Crisis communication and reputation management.Media liaison in the South African context from companies, to editors and journalists.Executive interaction.All international qualifications require an evaluation report / certificate issued by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).Closing date16 September 2023PLEASE NOTE THAT FEEDBACK WILL BE GIVEN TO SHORTLISTED CANDIDATES ONLY.For more info, please email us at ******.
