A temporary vacancy exists for a Sessional Artisan at Life Wilgers Hospital, reporting to the Engineering Manager. The incumbent will be responsible for assistance in maintaining activities of mechanical and air conditioning systems, plumbing, structural improvements and general maintenance.
Critical OutputsPerform tasks in order to inspect, check on all plumbing and mechanical systems in accordance with the preventative maintenance program as delegated/directed by the Supervisor.Execute repairs/tasks as per job card and instructions from Supervisor in repairing plumbing and mechanical systems.Perform standby duties after hours in issuing of medical gas cylinders on demand to wards. Change cylinders on emergency medical gas manifolds.Be available to be on standby for general maintenance in the hospital.Attend to urgent matters, repairing items only requiring basic skills to ensure continuous availabilities.Inspecting machine plant rooms and equipment, do basic system settings to ensure continuous system availability.Responsible for all general maintenance enquiries relating to Doctors and Nursing Staff.Provide line managers with relevant information as required.Any other related tasks as delegated by the Hospital Engineering Manager within the Hospital and its surroundings.Maintain a comprehensive hospital engineering management system.RequirementsGrade 12The successful candidate must be in possession of a Trade Tested artisan on Mechanical Engineering.Be registered with the Department of Manpower.Should have at least 5 years artisan experience.Preference will be given to candidates with an Accredited HVAC Qualification and Electrical experience.The successful candidate should also be familiar with all aspects of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993.CompetenciesBasic trade skills for electrical work and basic refrigeration mechanics and maintenance of HVAC systems.Problem-solving, analysis and judgement.Activating, setting, resetting of medical support/emergency systems.Resilience.Engaging diversity.Verbal & written communication.Use of power tools - Handling of medical gas cylinders.
