The Maintenance Manager will ensure efficient maintenance processes and a safe working environment, supporting the factory's production needs by overseeing the Tool Room's activities, without direct involvement in the overall Plastic Packaging Plant.Key Responsibilities:Tool Room Management:Lead and manage all maintenance and operational activities within the Tool Room, with a focus on modernizing processes through innovation and improvement. Oversee the fabrication of frames, tools, and components used in factory operations, while identifying opportunities for streamlining operations and introducing automated solutions. Plan and coordinate preventative and corrective maintenance on Tool Room equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime.Innovation & Improvement:Continuously seek opportunities for innovation in the Tool Room, driving improvements in processes, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Evaluate and implement automation technologies where feasible, to reduce manual labor, improve precision, and enhance overall productivity. Lead initiatives to modernize the aging Tool Room infrastructure and equipment, ensuring the long-term viability of the department's operations.Team Leadership:Supervise and lead a team of 2 Artisans, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. Provide technical guidance and training to staff, ensuring they are equipped to adapt to new technologies and improvements. Ensure adherence to maintenance and repair schedules within the Tool Room.Operational Support:Collaborate with the Operations Executive and other departments to ensure Tool Room activities align with production goals, while focusing exclusively on tooling and maintenance improvements. Ensure the timely and precise fabrication of tools and frames to support production needs, with an eye toward increasing automation and efficiency. Troubleshoot Tool Room issues and implement solutions that emphasize innovation and long-term improvements.Health & Safety:Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations specific to the Tool Room's activities, including proper handling of heavy engineering equipment. Conduct regular inspections of Tool Room equipment, identifying potential safety hazards and addressing them promptly. Implement and enforce safety protocols within the Tool Room, especially in this dirty and potentially hazardous environment.Budget & Resource Management:Manage the Tool Room's maintenance budget, ensuring cost-effective solutions for repairs, tool fabrication, and equipment upgrades, while also investing in innovative solutions and automation. Maintain an inventory of essential parts and tools to minimize delays, while exploring ways to automate inventory management. Evaluate and recommend necessary equipment upgrades or replacements, focusing on innovative technologies and automation.RequirementsQualifications / Experience:Trade: MillwrightMinimum 5 years of experience in a maintenance management role within a similar Tool room / metal working / heavy engineering environment, with specific experience in maintaining Grinders, Lathes, Turning Machines, Milling Machines (both CNC and Conventional), Hydraulic Presses, Welders, Shapers, Band Saws, Power Hacksaws, etc.Specific experience in Tool Room management (strong advantage)We'll also be looking for:Experience working in older factories with aging machinery and infrastructure, and a proven track record of driving innovation and improvements.Proven experience leading small technical teams, with a focus on artisan management.Skills:Strong technical problem-solving abilities, with a focus on innovation and improvement.Experience with automation and process improvements in industrial environments.Strong leadership and team management skills.Familiarity with health and safety regulations in industrial environments.Ability to manage budgets and resources efficiently, with a focus on innovation.Key Attributes:Hands-on approach to problem-solving, maintenance management, and process improvement.Ability to thrive in a challenging, dirty work environment.Strong communicator with a vision for implementing new technologies and automation.Commitment to innovation and continuous improvement.Benefits:R60 000 CTC
