The primary responsibilities of the Manager: Maintenance is to manage all preventative maintenance contractors and contracts related to multiyear maintenance contracts which fall within Central Technical Services. The role covers all four University of Johannesburg campuses viz. Auckland Park Kingsway Campus, Auckland Park Bunting Road Campus, Doornfontein and Soweto; as well as any other UJ properties that may require support.
Responsibilities: Developandimplement maintenancestrategiesand plansalignedwith thevisionof theUniversityof Johannesburg. Abilitytosuccessfully develop,interpret,and applypoliciesand regulationsina complexuniversitysetting. Compileandmanage theannualbudget relatedtoall preventativemaintenanceof infrastructureandequipment efficientlyandeffectively. Managethepreventative maintenancefunctioneffectively byensuringreduction inrealcost andimprovementof facilities. Providemaintenanceof infrastructureandequipment relatedinputinto theCampusMaster PlanSteeringCommittee. Developandupdate infrastructureandequipment maintenanceplansaccording totheuniversity strategicplan. Implement/Manage ComputerAidedFacilities ManagementSystemsto assistwithMaintenance andManagementof infrastructureandequipment. Overseetheimplementation andthemanagement ofmaintenancerelated contractualagreements. Postgraduate qualification in Mechanical or Electrical (NQF 8) or equivalent is essential.Five (5) years' maintenance management experience in a multi-functional environment is essential.Five (5) years' people management experience is essential.Sound knowledge and understanding of Maintenance Management Systems.At least three (3) years' computerised maintenance management system experience.Registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa or other relevant professional body.A valid driver's license. Competencies and Behavioural Attributes: Excellent written, verbal, listening and interpersonal communication skills.Ability to make complex decisions with high levels of discretion.Successful track record building consensus and influencing senior leadership and stakeholders in order to implement new strategies related to maintenance of the infrastructure and equipment.Effective customer service, people management and team leadership skills.Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures.Knowledge of current and relevant preventative maintenance methodologies Recommendations: Masters degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial)Advanced qualification / certification in Maintenance Management.Government Certificate of Competence.A working knowledge of facilities management software systems with regard to management and maintenance of infrastructure and infrastructure related assets.Managing and operating within the Facilities Management/Technical Services Enquiries: Enquiries regarding the job content: Mr Thabisho Kuntwane (Director: Sustainability, Environment & Utilities) on Tel: (011) 559 7610
