Purpose of the Job
To ensure a sound Asset Care Strategy in place and executed. To lead, manage and ensure accountability of the maintenance team to deliver value to the business, with a strong focus on driving a reliability and preventative maintenance culture across the site through strong enforced maintenance standards, criticality assessment, best maintenance practices, and continuous improvement. GMR (1) appointed responsibility for the company.
Key Responsibilities
Health and Safety

Ensure employee safety is the number one priority throughout the plant with zero onsite fatality rate, achieving Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) targets and Total Recordable Injury Frequency Rate (TRIFR).
Ensure compliance with legal and statutory requirements as set out in the Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as in the General Machinery Regulations and any other applicable legislation.
Establish and ensure adherence to Safe Work Procedures and standard operating procedures to ensure environmental and safety protocols in a cost-effective manner.
Drive risk identification and mitigation to eliminate any hazard or potential hazard to the health and safety of employees.
Practice and work according to safety standards and regulations.
Provide information, structure, training, and supervision as an enabler to building a strong safety culture.
Participate in SHE committee meetings and assist in work action and closure where appropriate.
Use the IMS system provided for day-to-day management of SHEQ information and documentation.

Asset Management (AM)

Manage assets throughout the asset lifecycle – procuring equipment, installation, commissioning, operating, maintaining, repairing, replacing, and disposal.
Drive team to provide hands-on technical expertise, continuous improvement, improvement projects, and maintenance support on conversions.
Oversee the identification and mitigation of risks around assets – safety risk, business interruption, reduced performance.
Focus on reducing electrical and mechanical breakdowns, including plant services, and reduce overall unplanned maintenance.
Be responsible for proactive and preventative maintenance requirements across the site and set and enforce site maintenance standards.
Manage, support, and encourage reliability throughout the maintenance department by being responsible for the longer-term maintenance and improvements of the plant and associated equipment.
Ensure engineering standards are in place for in-house or third-party engineering equipment supply or repair and for service work expectations, communicated following the company ISO procedure.
Assist with the sourcing of spares, identification of critical spares, and inventory levels agreements.
Ensure that items held in the engineering stores or new equipment being purchased meet the quality expected by specifying acceptable product makes and ranges to ensure reliability and rationalize the site product portfolio of spares holding.
Monitor the performance of all site equipment systems to determine the effectiveness of maintenance strategies, revise and upgrade planned preventative maintenance (PPM) plans, in conjunction with the Planner to provide the most effective use of equipment downtime for maintenance tasks.
Facilitate meetings and work closely with Production to identify problem areas through techniques such as Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and drive out corrective actions.
Use Pragma to evaluate trends, equipment performance, and causes of downtime.
In conjunction with the maintenance planner and production managers, provide any technical input of equipment and resources required for planned shuts and/or breakdowns and routine maintenance.
Act as site contact for service providers and control and coordinate as necessary, ensuring contract personnel are inducted, work safe, and meet expected performance levels.
Coordinate necessary revisions to contractor service frequencies and scope of work to ensure equipment reliability is maintained.
Drive Asset Management KPIs – Unplanned downtime, asset availability, schedule attainment, and efficiencies.
Ensure effective document management, with all files and drawings on record and up to date.
Ensure availability of updated maintenance standard procedures for each asset on the register.
Maintain service providers critical list and SLAs in line with Epiroc.

Lead the Team

Lead and manage the maintenance team (approximately 55 employees).
Manage and quality assure team deliverables.
Review skill set of the team, identify training needs, and facilitate necessary training.
Resource the team and recruit when required, managing individual performance of team members.
Facilitate skills transfer in the team to build capabilities.

Overhead Costs

Manage maintenance budget/costs.
Drive initiatives to reduce maintenance and overtime costs.
Manage contractor and external service provider costs (set up SLAs for contractors).

Operational Excellence

Lead the identification of risks to improve performance.
Ensure all compliance checks are carried out according to the schedule.
Ensure Standard Operating Procedures are in place and followed.
Monitor team performance and progress against plan, taking corrective action where necessary.

Capability Building

Ensure the transfer of technical knowledge from subject matter experts in the team into the business and build capability.
Coach the team in developing skills to transfer their knowledge and work with the learning and development team in this regard.

Qualifications

B.Eng. Degree (Mech./Elec) or equivalent Technical Diploma (N6) / Qualified Artisan.
Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) will be advantageous.

Job Related Experience Required

7 years' experience in Engineering/Maintenance/manufacturing within the steel manufacturing industry.
Minimum 5 years' experience in Reliability Engineering and Asset Care Strategies.
Exposure to maintenance management systems (JDE/SAP/CMMS/Pragma).
Exposure to project management of large CAPEX investments.
Financial understanding of how to manage Maintenance budget.
