About The RoleThe maintenance engineer is accountable for the safe and reliable operation of all plant and machinery to safeguard employees against harm as per the requirements of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and the General Machinery Regulations and to ensure availability of plant for production. He/she is additionally accountable to manage the planning, coordination, leadership, and the controlling of resources within the specific engineering sections to ensure that unplanned stoppages are managed to a minimum. The role holder will carry a legal appointment as the GMR (2.1) for the site. Responsibilities include managing the implementation of the principles and practices of engineering, and ensuring the application of quality procedures, compliance with relevant legislation, and appropriate safety standards. Responsibilities also include providing support to the supervisors, and the plant manager. The maintenance engineer must provide strategic direction considering the impact of 2-5 years ahead. This includes proposals with respect to capital replacement and maintenance strategy.
