Primary Location: Smelter Operations (Saldanha)
Position Summary Responsible for Maintenance Engineer functions at the smelter site and will be reporting to the Maintenance Manager.
Qualification & Experience BEng Mechanical or Electrical Engineering; or BTECH Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (Mandatory) Grade 12/ Standard 10/N3 with Maths and Science (Mandatory) GCC (Factory - Electrical or Mechanical) (Added Advantage) Driver's License (Mandatory) Knowledge & Skills RWM (Routine Work Management Processes) & Asset management Hazard identification, Risk assessment, RCFA / RCM facilitated and implemented Procurement, Contract and Project Management Experience within a heavy industry/ production / mining environment (Mandatory) Computer Literacy (Mandatory) 3-5 years experience Job Responsibilities Support the Electrical and Mechanical maintenance processes (RWM) Approve and assist with installation of Electrical and Mechanical equipment to comply with regulatory standards Develop and maintain equipment maintenance strategies by applying reliability centered Maintenance principles/methodology Lead in developing maintenance budgets, monitoring/controlling maintenance costs to find opportunities for improvement Champion idea generation within the team Assist to ensure plant modifications are adequately risk assessed through management of change Provide technical support for repair methods for installed equipment and rotables - expert in diagnosing faults and repairing equipment Support supervisors & artisans performing difficult or major maintenance work and responding to critical equipment faults Troubleshoot equipment breakdowns (i.e. resource for the Maintenance Supervisors) Conduct equipment Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA problem solving) & support with action close-outs Partner with the Maintenance Supervisors to support improvement in RWM quality and efficiency Act as relief for other leaders in the Maintenance Organization Perform engineering design calculations as needed Support the Rotables/Repairable team by defining the repair scopes (in conjunction with vendor) and definition and development of repair procedures Manage replacement or small to medium execution improvement projects, either capital or opex expense Identify improvement opportunities with Maintenance teams and drive these projects to completion Assist in responses for emergencies, unplanned problems and repairs Implement minor plant optimization projects Conduct performance management and performance reviews Actively participate in team training and development Effective People Management Ensure an optimised team structure is manned by staff that is motivated, empowered and led by sound performance management and transformational leadership practices. Promote teamwork, provide support and manage performance by creating and maintaining individual development plans of subordinates. Assume responsibility for managing manpower, efficient resource allocation, declaration of competence and reduction of operating costs. Compliance, Governance & Assurance Ensure all business operations adhere and comply with corporate governance, statutory, legal and other requirements. Adhere to OHS Act, company-specific SHE policies, procedures and legislation. Manage risk by assessing liabilities, reporting and monitoring standards, as well as attending to rehabilitation/environmental problems in line with Tronox standards. Accept responsibility for SHEQ by creating awareness and addressing all unsafe practices in a timely manner. Implement and maintain audit structure. Consistently apply RCFA techniques to investigate complex reliability issues. Provide Technical support to production, maintenance management and technical personnel as required. Apply value analysis to repair/replace, repair/design, and make/buy decisions. Utilize RCM process for existing and new equipment. Production Efficiency Achieve production targets through optimum output. Ensure operational efficiency and quality. Assume responsibility for coordinating first line maintenance to limit plant/equipment downtime.
