DESCRIPTION: This is an exciting opportunity to work for Amazon, supporting dynamic, high impact Live Events taking place in a large production venue (LPV) and in our production studio in the new Cape Town campus.
The candidate should demonstrate strong organizational skills, be customer obsessed, and be energetically driven to support our customers and the team.
The system engineer role will be in charge of both the health, maintenance and operation of the production systems in both the LPV and the studio.
This includes video / audio routing and mixing, lighting control and complex AV systems.
The successful candidate will be able to design, program and operate the required systems for live events ranging from conference style meetings, special events and studio productions.
The successful candidate will ideally have experience as a live production engineer demonstrating deep systems knowledge, interpersonal skills, and the ability to keep calm, focused and confident in a production environment.
The System Engineer should have a strong background in technical problem solving skills to support the event engineers when problems arise
Key job responsibilities
*Design, program and operate the required live events systems and equipment with autonomy.
* Develop, document and maintain event/AV standards and drive process improvements.
* Design, program and operate live events with autonomy, taking the customers' ideas and delivering an outstanding product.
* Proactively engage with production team to pursue process improvements.
* Promptly communicate with team, customers, and business partners.
* Raise the bar for our customers by searching out opportunities to help others improve skillsets and processes.
* Contribute as a subject matter expert in the field of audio/visual production.
A day in the life
This engineer will keep a weekly schedule of standard maintenance, work with the onsite event coordinators and producers to plan for and execute the events, coordinate additional staffing with third party vendors, and communicate regularly with the rest of the team members to stay connected to the overall team status.
Pre-event:
* Thorough testing of equipment use cases ahead of implementation.
* Clear communication with all team members.
* Join Planning Meetings with customers as technical subject matter expert.
Event delivery:
* Optimising systems for the best quality attainable.
* Technical leadership of engineers when required.
* Operation of event/AV equipment (audio, video, lighting)
* Adaptable to customer needs and changes.
Post-event:
* Assist with de-rig of event space(s), ensuring correct equipment handling and storage.
* Participate in post-event feedback discussions/surveys.
* Implementation of learnings/improvements.
About the team
The Event Production team provides high quality support to internal Amazon customers.
The team consists of engineers and system engineers who work daily with the installed production equipment, helping to plan and execute each event within the space.
The Event Production team culture is built around providing quality customer support for each event, and works to customize each event to provide the maximum results for each customer.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: - 4+ years experience in the AV sector, with a proven record of installing, commissioning, designing, configuring and/or troubleshooting corporate AV systems
- Excellent problem-solving and diagnosis skills, with a strong understanding of signal flow and ability to match resources to issues appropriately
- Familiarity with Ross video processors, Cisco VC equipment, Yamaha professional mixing consoles.
- 2+ years of networking (such as DNS, DHCP, SSL, OSI Model, and TCP/IP) experience
- Bachelor's degree in IT, computer science or equivalent
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 3+ years of supporting a windows server environment experience
- Experience supporting video conference equipment
