The Faculty of Technology (FTK) has a wide range of activities spanning across nine different departments through which Linnaeus University provides education and conducts research. The education offers at the faculty of technology cover everything from short courses of a few weeks or month to five-year civil engineering programs. The research responds to society's needs in several broad fields - both in the short and long term - with basic research and applied research in collaboration with society's actors.
The department of informatics consists of approximately 30 employees, and we aim to further grow with doctoral students. Within the department of informatics, research is conducted with a focus on the design and use of information technology across individual, organizational, and societal settings. Active research areas are linked to our education programs and have different focuses that overlap, namely: Data-driven business innovation, Systems thinking and Interaction design. Informatics has six education programs at basic and advanced level. Several of the courses are conducted remotely both nationally and internationally. Informatics also has independent courses as well as teaching and research collaboration with other faculties, above all within Knowledge Environment Linné: Digital transformations. Department of informatics is also part of the Swedish Research School of Management and IT is an arena to explore IT-related phenomena that permeate several disciplines within the areas of management and IT.
This doctoral student position is part of the Graduate School of Advanced Technology and Enterprising (GATE). GATE is Sweden's first doctoral school focused on the challenges faced by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the digital transition. Through education and collaboration, the doctoral school bridges the gap between research and practical application in business operations. GATE is a collaboration between the School of Business and Economics and the Faculty of Technology at Linnaeus University, with a focus on enterprises in Småland.
Subject area for the position: Computer and Information Sciences - Informatics
Location until further notice: Kalmar or Växjö. Since Linnaeus University is located in both Växjö and Kalmar, travel between the two campuses may be required.
Hours and term: The doctoral studentship is limited in time in accordance with the Higher Education Ordinance (Chapter 5, Section 7). The studentship is full-time.
Starting date: Starting date as agreed upon.
Your work as doctoral student will primarily consist of research in informatics (80% of the time) and teaching and other departmental duties (20% of the time). Within research activities, we expect from a successful candidate to be engaged on:
Conduct research related to digital maturity, analytical capabilities and data driven innovation practices in the of SMEsCollaborate with other doctoral students in the Graduate School of Advanced Technology and Enterprising, other affiliated researchers as well as industrial stakeholders.Ability to disseminate your research results in scientific outlets such as peer-reviewed journals and conferences.Assisting in teaching duties, comprising no more than 20% of the total workload, may be included among your duties.
Qualifications
The Higher Education Ordinance (Chapter 7, Section 35) states that in order to be admitted to third-cycle education, the applicant must
meet the general entry requirements as well as any specific entry requirements set up by the relevant higher education institutionbe considered to have the abilities required to be able to benefit from the education that they are given.A person meets the general entry requirements for third-cycle studies if they
have been awarded a degree at the second-cycle levelhave at least 240 credits of passed courses, of which at least 60 credits are at the second-cycle level; orhave acquired essentially equivalent knowledge in some other way, in or outside Sweden.A person meets the specific requirements for third-cycle studies if they:
a second-cycle degree (master) in Computer and Information Sciences, Informatics or equivalent subject.good knowledge of data science and analytical tools.good knowledge of English language in written and spoken form. Knowledge of Swedish (or Scandinavian languages) will be considered an advantage.Assessment criteria
The selection of candidates is made with regard to the applicant's ability to successfully complete and benefit from their studies at the graduate level. The assessment is based on the applicant's scientific competence as it appears from application documents with particular emphasis on written works, the research plan submitted and the job interview.
Other requirements
In addition, the following competencies are meritorious.
• Documented experience on working with IT based processes with business sector.
• Participation in research projects and ability to write in scientific terms
