Education: Grade 12 or equivalentQualification: Traffic DiplomaExperience: A minimum of 2 to 5 years of relevant experience in traffic enforcement or a related fieldLicense: Valid Code EB driver's license or higherCompetency: Firearm competency certificate in accordance with the Firearms Control ActPhysical and Medical Fitness: Candidates must be medically and physically fit to perform all required Traffic Officer dutiesLanguage: Proficiency in at least two official languages, with English being mandatoryTechnical Skills: Basic computer literacyCriminal Record: Applicants must not have a criminal recordWorking Hours: Flexibility to work outside of normal office hours, including during emergenciesKey Responsibilities: Traffic Officers will play an essential role in maintaining traffic flow and public safety within the municipality.
Their core duties will include:
Coordinating and overseeing activities related to traffic flow and public safetyMonitoring local areas and responding to inappropriate behavior or non-complianceEnforcing traffic laws and public safety by-laws and ensuring compliancePreparing reports, statutory documentation, and maintaining registersCollaborating with local law enforcement agencies (SAPS, Fire Department, Traffic Department) to enhance safety effortsPerforming other tasks as required to ensure smooth and efficient traffic managementSpecial Conditions: Candidates will be required to wear a uniformExposure to various weather conditions as part of the roleAbility to carry a firearm as required by the positionAll applicants will undergo a vetting process to ensure their suitability for the roleInherent Skills and Competencies: Successful candidates will demonstrate the following key attributes:
