Responsibilities:
Provide comprehensive legal support to the business unit, ensuring timely, sound legal advice aligned with the company's strategy and risk appetite.
Develop an in-depth understanding of business unit products, channels, and features.
Produce written legal opinions, undertake research, and stay updated on legislative developments.
Maintain collegial relations with the Legal Department and keep the Legal Manager informed of key developments.
Legal Expertise:
Stay current on relevant laws, regulations, and standards.
Draft, review, and interpret legal documents, contracts, and policies.
Provide advice on compliance with local and international laws and support the design of compliant products.
Contract and Risk Management:
Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, service contracts, and vendor agreements.
Proactively manage legal risks, identify gaps, and develop mitigation strategies.
Support in preparing reports on legal risks, litigation, and agreements for senior management.
Dispute Resolution:
Advise on litigation strategy, liaise with external counsel, and represent the company in legal proceedings.
Coaching and Support:
Provide legal advice and training to internal departments.
Stakeholder Management:
Advise management on rights and obligations in business transactions and support risk control measures.
Coach and develop team members and share legislative updates.
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and admission as an attorney or advocate in South Africa.
5–7 years of post-admission legal experience, ideally in the credit, banking, or financial services industry.
Proficiency in MS Office and legal research tools
Experience in insurance law, litigation, and regulatory compliance is preferred.
