We're looking for a Legal Secretary to join our Legal Department. You'll work directly under the supervision of the Group Legal Manager and Company Secretary.
Requirements:
Degree, Diploma or qualification in a related field would be advantageous.
2 to 3 years of experience in a legal setting.
Having worked with company secretarial duties and regulatory compliance would be a plus.
Experience in working with CIPC in obtaining, maintaining changes and keeping company records.
Must be excellent at organizing, prioritizing, and keeping track of important dates and tasks daily.
Must be very punctual, especially with meeting and court deadlines.
Capable of working independently without needing constant oversight but knows when to ask for guidance.
Must be meticulous with file management and keeping documents organized both physically and digitally.
Strong research skills, particularly in legal contexts.
Experience in helping with company expansions, both in Africa and internationally, would be beneficial.
Here's what you'll be doing:
Writing and preparing legal documents and case-related papers.
Assist with typing and drafting of legal/litigation documents (i.e. appearance to defend, affidavits, summons etc)
Typing of and assisting with drafting agreements, internal leases, contracts
Typing and assist with drafting briefs/instructions to counsel
Keep attorney updated on court dates, pleadings, copies and ensure sames if served and filed timeously.

Research, compiling relevant files
collating and adjusting of attorney's that have been instructed with regards to monthly charges.
Attending to request of payment of correspondent attorneys/advocates monthly fees.

Requestings for payments and follow ups - spreadsheet to be maintained
diary management - setting of meetings
diarising files, opening and closing of files - electronic and manual
Handling emails and other forms of correspondence.
Creating contracts, leases, and agreements.
Managing payment requests and follow-ups.
Organizing and scheduling meetings., sending requests, preparing packs and copies.
Keeping track of important files and dates.
Managing both electronic and physical files, opening, closing, and updating them.
Assist Group Legal Manager with company and exco meeting requirements and following up.
Preparing briefs and instructions for legal counsel.
Keeping the lawyer informed about court dates and ensuring all documents are properly handled and submitted on time.
Occasionally covering reception desk duties.
Taking minutes at internal disciplinary meetings.
Assisting in research and compiling necessary documents.
Managing the monthly bills from other law firms and advocates.
Maintaining records of all lease agreements.
Supporting other managers with their tasks.
Typing from recorded dictations.
Organizing meeting materials and handling related logistics.
