Legal Practitioner - Internal - Alberton, Gauteng

We are looking for a Legal Practitioner with at least five years' experience responsible for overseeing all legal activities within the company. The candidate must have construction or building services experience. The position is based in Alberton.Duties & ResponsibilitiesProvide advice to the business on potential legal risks, claims, etc.Perform all company secretarial functions within the company.Draft and negotiate various agreements across the company, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements.Advise and oversee Service Level Agreements and contracts with clients, sub-contractors, sub-consultants, etc.Ability to advise Exco and operations on all current business and client's contracts.Review and draft departmental policies including authority and delegation's framework.Coordinate all activities with external counsel on project acquisition agreements, SLAs, and pending litigations.Participate and oversee the Risk Committee reporting to the legal risk committee.Attend and present legal risk to the Executive Committee regularly.Review and negotiate contract extensions or amendments as needed.Review and draft Terms of References for all areas of business including but not limited to Tenders, Bid submissions, or Request for Proposal.Review various agreements including Limitation of Liability requests.Provide internal legal opinions as requested by the service lines or the General Counsel.Assist in managing disputes and litigation matters (commercial), and compliance, legislative, and regulatory requirements as requested by the General Counsel.Assist in the maintenance of a register of legal work done.Conduct, oversee, and mitigate the Legal Compliance Risk Register quarterly.Conduct skills audits for the department on a continuous basis and report on skills gaps to Senior Management and Human Resources monthly.Strong analytical, literacy, and numerical skills.Good written and verbal communication skills.Proven effective leadership skills and ability to work within a multidisciplinary team.Adhere to Mekan QMS policy, process, and procedures.Adhere to Mekan HR policies.Desired Experience & QualificationProfessional Registration with Legal Practitioners Council.Valid Driver's license.No criminal record.Willingness to work overtime when necessary.Minimum of five years' experience.Strong organizational and project management skills.Experience in a construction, project management, and engineering industry is ideal.Must be willing to travel.Package & RemunerationBasic Salary (*Market related depending on skills, competency, and experience*).
