Job DescriptionTo formulate the Legal Risk strategy in alignment with business, legal and regulatory requirements and is accountable for the decision making and implementation of the Legal Risk framework.Enablement of shareholder value through integrated frameworks, guidelines, policies, standards and resource optimisation.Development of strategies to protect the company against potential financial losses arising from legal issues.Establish, align and manage target and budget goals whilst ensuring effective control of costs for the function to increase cost efficiency.Ensures professional excellence by establishing a high level of organisational co-operation and provides professional consultative legal support to the Business Unit.Cultivate and manage objective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including external attorneys, FirstRand Group Legal Services, FNB Legal Services, business and external stakeholders and industry bodies to ensure business is in the position to obtain expert opinion on specialist areas of law.Maintenance of expert knowledge on relevant legislation, industry best practices and provision of proactive advice and solutions to relevant stakeholders. Research and provide legal opinion on a variety of issues and new business projects within the business to proactively identify, assess and manage legal risk.Development and enablement of integrated Legal Risk strategies, tools, processes and systems to manage Legal risk within the business.Development of frameworks which ensure legally compliant best business practices and policies in order to protect the organisation from legal risk. Benchmark current practices against the legal risk management framework and adjust practices as and when necessary.Monitor changes in legislation, regulations, initiatives and relevant industry practices. Ensure drafting and implementation of appropriate interventions.Facilitate Business Unit and FNB Legal relationships. Communication and allocation of responsibility to relevant stakeholders.Draft, review/update and re-negotiate legal agreements and other legal documentation to adequately manage legal risks.Deal with litigation matters involving the business to manage legal risk and liaison with Ombudsman.Identify and communicate current and anticipated legal issues/risks.Establish an empowering environment to actively attract, grow and retain top talent. Plan and manage performance, skills development, employment equity, talent and culture of team in order to improve innovation, achieve efficiencies and increase competencies.Manage personal development to increase own skills and competencies.Education and Experience Grade 12 (Matric)LLB (Law)Admitted Attorney of the High Court5 Years experience in a legal Advisor role/BCom LawFinancial Industry experience is essentialBanking Law/ Credit/ Market conduct knowledge.Job DetailsApplication Closing Date: 02/09/24
