About the Role We are currently offering an exciting opportunity for a Lead Practical Guidance Editor. This role provides editorial support across the LNUK Practical Guidance portfolio. Consisting of online subscription-only services for legal and tax professionals delivering up-to-date, practice area-specific guidance, checklists, precedents, forms, drafting notes, legal analysis and news (built and maintained by our own specialist lawyers, tax professionals, expert contributors and consulting editorial boards).
Key responsibilities: Editing technical legal and tax content in XML. Reviewing content for sense and conformity to house style, proofreading and making style corrections in a timely and communicative manner. Ensuring our products work – solving technical issues yourself or by escalating to the right colleagues. Understanding the intended customer experience and tailoring approach accordingly. Building outstanding working relationships with authors – communicating with them on a daily basis to understand priorities, customer initiatives and market changes. Identifying issues, proactively suggesting and implementing solutions, and ensuring authors are aware of (and adhering to) best practice and have the information they need to deliver content. Working closely with London colleagues and offshore editors to communicate priorities and update on technical and other changes – keeping offshore team members plugged in by speaking regularly and sharing information. Advising on best practice and delivering feedback and training. Leading content update and enrichment projects (eg where a large number of documents need to change at the same time). Understanding author and product requirements, communicating plans and drawing in editorial resource as appropriate. Meeting and exceeding challenging deadlines and working with third party suppliers when necessary. Understanding and taking ownership of editorial processes and leading Continuous Improvement initiatives. Ensuring offshore editors and partner teams are aware of correct process, working with colleagues and management to streamline processes to enable the quick delivery of quality content. Delivering training, masterclasses and feedback sessions on processes and best practice to editors (UK & the Philippines), authors and other teams. Working with training team to ensure guidance documentation is maintained, drafting and circulating new material when required. Testing product and CMS functionality as required, and delivering editorial projects required to support the development and launch of new offerings. Building relationships with other teams we work with, eg fabrication, sales, etc and acting as an ambassador for the team in the global business. Working with project teams to understand changes to functionality, workflow, processes and systems, and ensuring that these are tested and incorporated into "business as usual" processes.
Specialist knowledge/skills required: Proven first-rate sub-editing ability and experience of applying and developing a house style. Experience of working in an area of complexity and using professional knowledge to deliver results. Ability to prioritize own workload to meet tight deadlines, and proven ability to coordinate projects (planning approach, resourcing appropriately). Outstanding communication skills (experience working with legal/tax professionals or similar is an advantage), and ability to negotiate and influence to ensure the best possible outcomes for the business. Interest in and ability to upskill on AI and automation, submit internal AI ideas and conduct business experiments using generative AI tools. Legal qualification and/or background an advantage.
