About the Role

A legal and compliance officer ensures the company is in compliance with its outside regulatory and legal requirements as well as internal policies and bylaws.

Responsibilities

Assist the Head of Legal in developing and implementing structures and processes for the effective and efficient provision and delivery of wide legal services, risk management, and legal and regulatory compliance to the Company Group.
Research and provide training to staff on legal risk management.
Ensure the requirements of risk, governance, and compliance are addressed by embedding a legal risk culture within the Company.
To support business, commercial transactions, and projects and act as a trusted advisor and business partner.
Provide legal advice by responding to ad hoc risk requests and queries.
Scan the environment for legal or regulatory changes or developments, communicate new and relevant legislation to the business, and educate management and employees on pertinent legal issues.
Draft, review, vet, and negotiate contracts on behalf of the business to ensure that legal contractual risk is managed adequately and effectively.
To execute legal operations by providing legal advice to stakeholders on relatively well-defined to moderately complex matters, using the prescribed tools and methodologies.
To identify and mitigate all legal risks.
Provide Company secretarial and general administrative support.
Implement a culture of compliance and integrity, and further ensure that the Company complies with all relevant statutory and regulatory requirements, including assisting the Head of Legal to ensure compliance with the National Credit Act, POPI Act, FICA, etc); and
Any other duties as assigned by the line manager.
Candidate Requirements

Education

LLB Degree or equivalent
Admitted Attorney
Other legal, compliance, or company secretary Qualifications, Certifications, or Professional Memberships preferred.
Experience

2-3 years of proven experience in providing legal advice, drafting, vetting, review, dissemination, and/or negotiation, with at least 2 years' experience within the legal and/or financial sectors. Identification and mitigation of legal risk.
At least 1 year of experience in company secretarial and compliance management is preferred.
Experience within a commercial and finance department within a multinational company is desirable.
